The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced plans to recruit 11,500 qualified Ugandan citizens in a countrywide exercise scheduled for early July 2025, offering a major opportunity for young Ugandans to serve their country both in regular forces and as specialised professionals.
The recruitment exercise will run from Monday, July 7, 2025, to Friday, July 11, 2025, and will be conducted in two phases: an online application phase and a physical recruitment phase at district and city levels.

According to the Ministry of Defence and UPDF spokesperson, the recruitment drive is part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture and ensure the army maintains a professional and well-trained force able to meet evolving national, regional, and international security demands.

The first stage requires all aspiring candidates to submit their applications online through the official UPDF Recruitment Portal at recruitment.updf.go.ug.
The second phase will involve physical recruitment at designated centres in all 135 districts and 11 cities of Uganda.

The UPDF clarified that the recruitment quotas for each district and city will be determined based on the latest Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) population figures as of June 2024.
Successful candidates at this stage will receive introduction cards to present at their assigned training centres.
The UPDF says the recruitment will cater for two broad categories: general recruitment for regular forces and professionals for specialised roles.
The UPDF has issued a strong warning against fraud and corruption in the recruitment exercise
The UPDF describes the upcoming recruitment as a chance for young, disciplined, and patriotic Ugandans to answer the call of duty.
“We invite all qualified citizens to take advantage of this opportunity to serve their country,” said the Defence Ministry statement.
“The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces is built on the pillars of patriotism, discipline, nationalism, and Pan-Africanism, and we look forward to welcoming new members who share these values.”
