The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party has officially released its election roadmap for the selection of flag bearers to lead Special Interest Group (SIG) Committees across all villages in Uganda.
The elections target key demographic groups including the youth, older persons, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

According to a statement from the NRM Electoral Commission, the process kicks off today, Thursday 30th May 2025, with Expression of Interest, nomination, and campaign activities taking place at the parish level.

These preliminary activities will run for three days, concluding on Sunday 1st June 2025.
Voting is scheduled for Monday 2nd June 2025 and will be held in all villages countrywide.

The NRM urged all eligible party members under the youth, older persons, and PWD categories to take part in this important internal democratic exercise.
“We encourage all members who qualify under these categories to fully participate in these elections as a way of strengthening grassroots representation within the party,” the statement posted on X read.
In a bid to promote inclusiveness and reduce barriers to participation, the NRM Electoral Commission clarified that there will be no Expression of Interest fees required from candidates seeking positions in the SIG Committees.
This decision is expected to enhance accessibility and ensure broader participation across rural and marginalized communities.
These elections form a crucial part of the party’s internal preparations ahead of the 2026 general elections, ensuring that SIGs are fully represented within the NRM leadership structure from the grassroots up.
Political analysts view the move as an important step toward empowering special interest groups, enhancing their voice within party decision-making processes and policy formulation.
