The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has dismissed its Kateta Sub County LCIII flag bearer following allegations of supporting an independent candidate, in what party leaders describe as a firm move to enforce discipline and loyalty ahead of the coming elections.
The announcement was made by Mr. Titus Okello, the NRM Head of Discipline for Serere District, while addressing party supporters during a rally held at Kamusala Primary School playgrounds.

Okello said the action taken against Mr. Alikileng Moris was in line with party disciplinary guidelines and aimed at safeguarding unity within the ruling party.

According to Okello, Mr. Alikileng was found culpable of actively supporting Ms. Esther Lucy Acom, an independent aspirant, instead of the officially endorsed NRM flag bearer for Serere District Woman Member of Parliament, State Minister for Fisheries, Hon. Hellen Adoa Abeku.
“This decision is not personal but institutional,” Okello told the gathering. “The NRM is a disciplined party guided by clear rules. Anyone who violates those rules must face the consequences, regardless of position.”

He cited a party memo dated October 22, 2025, signed by NRM Secretary General Mr. Richard Todwong, which clearly outlines the party’s stance on members who defy official party positions.
The memo directs that any party leader who chooses to contest as an independent against an NRM flag bearer, or who openly supports and campaigns for an independent candidate, must immediately step aside from their official roles.
“In such cases, the next person in the hierarchy as guided by the party constitution shall assume those responsibilities in acting capacity to ensure continuity and effective mobilization for our flag bearers,” the memo reads in part.
The NRM Secretariat explained that the directive was intended to maintain discipline, loyalty, and unity within the party, while preventing conflicts of interest, internal sabotage, and parallel mobilization efforts that could weaken the party’s electoral strength.
Following the dismissal of Mr. Alikileng Moris, Mr. Emitu Stephen has been appointed as the new NRM LCIII flag bearer for Kateta Sub County.
Okello expressed confidence that Emitu would work closely with party structures to mobilize support for all NRM candidates in the area.
Local party members at the rally welcomed the decision, with some saying it sends a strong message that indiscipline will not be tolerated.
Others urged the leadership to continue engaging disgruntled members to avoid further divisions within the party.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in Serere District, where competition for key political seats has intensified.
Okello concluded by urging supporters to remain focused on the party’s agenda.
“NRM remains united and strong. Those who choose to walk outside the party line should not expect to enjoy the privileges of party leadership,” he said.
