The race for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Soroti City Chairmanship has officially kicked off, with four contenders set to battle it out for the top position in the party’s city leadership.
The election, slated to take place at Teso College Aloet East Wing playfield, promises to be a decisive event for the ruling party’s local organizational strength.

Among those vying for the coveted seat is the incumbent chairperson, Willy Bisanga, who is seeking re-election to continue what he describes as “unfinished business” in consolidating NRM’s dominance in Soroti City.

Bisanga is facing stiff competition from Latif Abdul, a prominent businessman and community mobilizer; Anthony Egunyu, a chairperson NRM Committed Cardres with deep grassroots connections; and John Enomu, a political strategist and former FDC Chairperson for Soroti District who is known for his strong ties to the party’s national youth wing.
The NRM Party Registrar for Soroti City, Justine Okello, confirmed the list of candidates on Wednesday morning, urging them to conduct their campaigns with maturity and responsibility.

“We encourage all aspirants and their supporters to maintain peace and decorum during this electoral process. The NRM is a party of discipline and unity, and we expect the same spirit to prevail throughout the campaigns,” Okello said.
The internal party elections are part of a broader exercise to rejuvenate the NRM’s grassroots structures and prepare for future electoral contests, including the 2026 general elections.
The Soroti City vote will fill a total of eight key leadership positions, including Chairperson, Women’s League Chairperson, Youth League Chairperson, Veterans League Coordinator, Workers League Representative, and a representative for People with Disabilities (PWDs), among others.
The presence of four candidates for the city chairpersonship indicates a healthy level of internal party democracy.
Each contender brings a unique vision and background to the race.
Security has been tightened around the Teso College Aloet East Wing playfield in preparation for the highly anticipated election.
