Hundreds of participants from across Teso Sub-region on Saturday morning converged at Soroti Sports Ground for the Emorimor Third Coronation Anniversary Charity Run, an event organized by the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) to promote education and unity among the Iteso.
The run, held under the theme “Run for the Child: Supporting Girl and Boy Child Education,” attracted runners of all ages, community leaders, cultural representatives, and well-wishers.

It was one of the key activities leading up to the Third Coronation Anniversary celebrations of His Royal Highness, Papa Paul Sande Emolot, Etomeileng, the Emorimor of Iteso, scheduled for October 25, 2025, in Bukedea District.

The Chief Guest at the event was David Calvin Echodu, the Eastern Uganda NRM Vice-Chairperson and Soroti City West NRM Flag Bearer, who was represented by Peter Edeku Edopu, the NRM Flag Bearer for Dakabela County.
In his message delivered by Edopu, Echodu commended the Iteso Cultural Union for using culture as a vehicle to address social and economic challenges in the region.

“The Emorimor Run is not just a sporting event, but a rallying call for unity and action. Education is the most powerful tool for transformation, and I applaud ICU and His Royal Highness for prioritizing it,” Echodu said in his message.

He added that the government remains committed to supporting initiatives that complement its efforts to improve education and youth empowerment, particularly in rural communities.
While flagging off the run, His Royal Highness Papa Paul Sande Emolot called for calm, peace, and solidarity among the Iteso people, urging them to focus on development rather than divisions.
“Let us remain united as one people under the spirit of Ateker. Peace and cooperation must define who we are. This run is a symbol of togetherness and a step toward securing the future of our children through education,” the Emorimor said.
The Emorimor emphasized that proceeds from the charity run will support the Emorimor Education Fund, which aims to provide scholarships for bright but disadvantaged learners and establish the Ateker Skilling Institute to empower school dropouts with employable skills.
Rt. Hon. Andrew Ocole, the ICU Prime Minister, thanked the participants, sponsors, and organizing team for their support, describing the turnout as a clear demonstration of love and respect for the institution of the Emorimor and the vision of transforming Teso through education.
As the runners crossed the finish line amid cheers and traditional music, the atmosphere at Soroti Sports Ground reflected unity, pride, and a renewed sense of purpose, a true testament to the enduring legacy of the Emorimor’s leadership.
