His Royal Highness Paul Sande Emolot, the Iteso Cultural Union leader (Emorimor) yesterday delivered his New Year’s address urging political unity and cultural pride among the people of Teso.
Speaking from his residence in Tororo, Emorimor appealed to Teso politicians to abandon divisive politics and focus on fostering development in the sub-region.

In his 30 minutes speech, Emorimor addressed the growing trend of political infighting among leaders in Teso.

He warned against the dangers of “divide and rule” politics, stating, “This is a bad habit that hampers our growth as a community. We are gradually addressing these issues, and by the time we reach a climax, we hope to have fully harmonized our efforts.”
He emphasized the importance of collaboration, urging politicians to respect boundaries in their roles.

“We are asking each one to run his lane. Let everybody focus on their area of responsibility. Soon, this will be normal, and we will all move forward together,” he assured.
Emorimor also advised the people of Teso to focus on their families and work hard to improve their livelihoods.
He discouraged the tendency to linger in trading centers campaigning for politicians who may not reciprocate the support.
“Do not forget your family. Work first,” he urged.
He further highlighted the need for Iteso to unite as a community, particularly as Uganda enters a politically charged year.
“Politics often brings divisions and cliques, but we must rise above this. Play politics of unity and never forget the well-being of your family,” Emorimor stressed.
Rejecting UBOS Census Report
Emorimor also addressed the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) 2024 final census report, which placed the Iteso population at 3.1 million, ranking seventh among ethnic groups.
He rejected these findings, claiming that the figures underrepresent the Iteso population.
“We, as the institution, do not agree with these results,” he declared.
“We have already initiated a parallel census through our clan heads to gather accurate data. By February, we will have concrete numbers to present to UBOS for comparison.”
Emorimor expressed confidence in a higher population count, but he emphasized the need for verified facts before engaging in further discussions.
“To me, we are more than this number. But we cannot argue without facts. Just give us time; we are handling it,” he assured his people.
Emorimor in his speech also outlined a vision for development in Teso in 2025.
He highlighted the need to uphold cultural values, promote wealth creation, and improve education and agriculture.
“Let’s embrace this year with hope, determination, and a shared vision of progress. Together, we can achieve greatness, uphold our culture, and ensure a brighter future for each other,” he said.
Emorimor revealed plans for a ten-year strategic focus on primary education.
He announced a clan-based initiative to support education, with contributions from clans set at a minimum of UGX 100,000 per family.
“Many clans are even willing to contribute more than this amount,” he noted.
“Beneficiaries will be identified by the clans, ensuring transparency and cooperation. This is not going to be a big problem.”
The Emorimor also further emphasized the need for agricultural transformation through mechanization and the adoption of the Four Acre Model, a strategy championed by President Museveni.
He cited the success story of Ijala as an inspiration.
“If we can encourage our people to learn from Ijala, then the lives of our people will change. Even on small plots of land, significant productivity can be achieved,” he said.
Emorimor concluded his address by urging Iteso to respect and support their cultural heritage.
He called for unity in preserving the Iteso language and traditions while promoting the Ere Iteso, a cultural monument.
“The Iteso Cultural Union is central to our identity and progress. Let us support it wholeheartedly,” he appealed.
“In 2025, let us move forward with hope, determination, and a shared vision. Together, we can achieve greatness for Teso,” he concluded.
