The National Resistance Movement (NRM) fraternity in Soroti City has unveiled a major mobilisation strategy aimed at strengthening the party’s presence and support across the city, particularly in areas previously dominated by the opposition.
The campaign, spearheaded by the Soroti City Youth Councillor flag bearer Mr. Kyria Ashraff, was officially launched in Juakali Cell, Central Ward, one of the areas long considered an opposition stronghold.

The mobilisation drive comes ahead of the 81st birthday celebrations of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, scheduled for 15th November 2025.

According to organisers, the initiative seeks to unite the city’s youth, promote NRM values, and rally support for all party flag bearers from the local council level to Parliament.
“We are here to celebrate the President’s birthday and to begin activities that will culminate in the main celebrations on 15th November,” said Shabban Abbas, the Soroti City East Vice Chairperson of the NRM Youth League and Youth Councillor-elect.

“We want to take the message of His Excellency and the NRM manifesto to the grassroots so that our people understand and support the progress our party has achieved since 1996,” he added.
Abbas noted that over the years, President Museveni’s leadership has focused on tackling social challenges, consolidating stability, and promoting prosperity for all. He further emphasized that the 2026 elections will mark a “qualitative leap” towards achieving Uganda’s middle-income status.
Chief organiser Kiria Ashraff, who also serves as the NRM flag bearer for Soroti City Central, said the campaign is not merely about politics but also about unity and celebrating the President’s legacy.
“This mobilisation is not for money or personal gain; it is a genuine effort to celebrate the President’s birthday and strengthen our party’s presence. Juakali has been an opposition area for a long time, but that is about to change,” he said.
Ashraff called on the youth to take ownership of the mobilisation efforts, describing the initiative as a demonstration of “love for the President and the NRM fraternity.”
Esudu Francis, the NRM flag bearer for Soroti City Mayor, lauded the initiative and clarified that it was not an early campaign but an awareness event ahead of the official campaign launch on 10th November.
“We are simply informing the public about the upcoming celebrations and our readiness to support the President. Our goal is to ensure Soroti City turns yellow and enjoys the benefits of NRM leadership,” Esudu said.
Female Youth Councillor flag bearer Judith Pedun Okoth thanked the organisers for choosing Juakali as the starting point and urged young people to “protect the gains of the NRM” by staying united.
Soroti City RCC Okurut Michael praised the youth for their unity and urged residents to “shame the devil that has made Juakali an opposition hub.”
He appealed for continued cooperation to ensure the fulfilment of the President’s promises to Soroti City.
“Let us all prepare to vote for the President and ensure his pledges to Soroti are realised,” Okurut said.
Representing the Soroti City East Mayor flag bearer Abdul Latif, Peter Oderu thanked residents for their support and encouraged them to ignore empty promises from opposition politicians.
NRM Soroti City East MP flag bearer Isaac Orego expressed frustration with the current city leadership over poor waste management, pledging to mobilise at least 10 million votes for the President while empowering women and youth.
Women representative Miss Aisha commended the mobilisation efforts but urged party leaders to prioritise women’s empowerment, lamenting that many of the President’s pledges to women in Soroti have not yet been fulfilled.
“We are using the little we have to show our love for the party and the President, but we need more support. Women have the potential to bring votes if given the opportunity,” she said.
