As Uganda inches closer to the 2026 general elections, Soroti City Speaker and Woman MP aspirant, Hon. Juliet Agonyo, has called on all Ugandans (Christians and Muslims alike) to dedicate the Lenten season and the month of Ramadan to prayer, reflection, and national healing.
While addressing the media from her Soroti City office earlier today, Agonyo emphasized the importance of spiritual grounding and collective intercession during this critical period for the country.

“Uganda needs serious prayers,” Agonyo stressed. “As we prepare for the 2026 polls, we must come together in unity and ask God for mercy and guidance, so we avoid violence and bloodshed.”

Her call comes in the wake of renewed concerns about political unrest, following incidents of violence involving security forces and National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters during the ongoing by-elections in Kawempe North Constituency.
Agonyo condemned all forms of electoral violence and urged security agencies to uphold the law while respecting the rights and dignity of all Ugandans.

She emphasized that peace and democracy must go hand in hand if Uganda is to develop.
Agonyo also urged citizens to use the spiritual seasons of Lent and Ramadan as platforms for deep self-reflection, faith renewal, and national reconciliation.
“Dear my beloved people, As we embark on the Lenten journey, let’s take this opportunity to reflect, renew and rejuvenate our spirits,” she said.
She further encouraged Ugandans to fast from things that distract us from God, pray with sincerity and devotion and give to those in need and share blessings with others
Agonyo, who is seeking to represent Soroti City as Woman MP for the 2026–2031 term, concluded her statement with a prayerful hope that this season would bring peace and spiritual renewal to the nation.
“May this Lenten season bring us closer to God, and may we emerge from it with renewed hope, faith, and love. Blessings and peace,” she said.
