Soroti City East Division National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, Mr. Isaac Orego, has extended construction support to St. Michael Catholic Church Opiyai, one of the outstations under the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish in Soroti City.
The church, which is currently under construction, has been appealing to Christians and well-wishers for assistance to complete its building project.

Mr. Orego’s contribution comes as a significant boost to the faithful of Opiyai, who have long desired a permanent and decent place of worship.

While making the announcement of his support, Mr. Orego reaffirmed his commitment to leadership rooted in community transformation and unity, saying that his vision for Soroti City East goes beyond politics and focuses on improving the welfare of residents through practical acts of service.
“My leadership will be about bringing positive change that touches people’s lives directly,” Mr. Orego stated. “Supporting faith institutions like St. Michael Catholic Church is part of our shared responsibility to build a morally upright and spiritually strong society.”

He noted that religious institutions play a vital role in shaping values, promoting peace, and fostering community development, hence the need for collaboration between the Church and political leaders in improving social services.
As the 2026 General Elections draw nearer, Orego appealed to the residents of Soroti City East to entrust him with their mandate, promising to champion policies that will enhance livelihoods, promote job creation, and support government development programs at the grassroots.
“I want to be a bridge between the people and government opportunities. When you give me your trust, I will ensure that programs meant to fight poverty, improve education, and support youth and women groups reach you without discrimination,” he added.
Mr. Orego also used the occasion to urge citizens to actively participate in government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, saying these programs have the potential to uplift communities from poverty when embraced collectively.
On the issue of election violence, hate speech, and divisive politics, Mr. Orego appealed to all political actors and voters in Soroti City to embrace peace and tolerance regardless of political affiliation, religion, or ethnicity.
“After elections, we will still need each other as brothers and sisters. Let us conduct peaceful campaigns and build a future of harmony and cooperation,” he said.
He emphasized that leadership should not divide communities but instead unite them around common development goals.
The Church leadership at St. Michael Catholic Church commended Mr. Orego for his generosity and urged other leaders and Christians to emulate his example.
They noted that such gestures not only strengthen the Church but also demonstrate the importance of working together for the common good.
