During the Eid al-Adha (Idi Adha Mubarak) celebrations held at Oligoi Stadium in Soroti City, Sheikh Yusuf Okiror, the County Sheikh of Soroti District and City, called upon the Muslim community to embrace self-sacrifice, unity, and to avoid divisive politics, especially during this political season.
Eid al-Adha, celebrated annually by Muslims around the world, commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to Allah.

The celebration occurs in the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah, one of the four sacred months in the Islamic calendar.

In his address, Sheikh Okiror urged Muslims to follow the example set by Prophet Ibrahim by making sacrifices and helping one another.
“Today we slaughter animals not just as a ritual, but as an act of sharing. We are required to divide the meat and give it to our neighbors, the poor, and friends, regardless of their religion. Islam teaches us to sacrifice and share,” he stated.

He emphasized the importance of extending kindness and generosity to those in need and encouraged all Muslims to participate in this noble act.
Touching on the current political climate, Sheikh Okiror cautioned against allowing politics to sow division within the community.
“As we enter the political season, let us resist divisions caused by politics. We are all people of Allah, created in His image. Let politics not make us harm each other. We are one people, sharing the same blood,” he said.
He reminded the congregation that despite differences in color, race, culture, tribe, or political affiliation, unity should prevail as all people come from the same lineage.
Additionally, Sheikh Okiror encouraged Muslims to actively participate in government programs, such as the renewal of national identity cards, noting their importance in proving citizenship and enabling access to essential services and transactions.
The celebrations concluded with a call for continued faith, sacrifice, and community solidarity among Muslims in Soroti and beyond
