Newly elected Soroti City Mayor Francis Esudu Obwonyo has issued a heartfelt message of gratitude to residents following his victory in the recently concluded mayoral elections, pledging inclusive leadership, transparency, and people-centred development for the 2026–2031 term.
In a public statement addressed to the people of Soroti City, Esudu thanked voters for the confidence they placed in him, describing the election outcome as a collective victory for all residents rather than a personal triumph.
“With deep humility and a grateful heart, I extend my sincere thanks to each and every one of you for the trust you have placed in me,” Esudu said.

“This victory does not belong to me alone. It belongs to the people of Soroti City, women and men, the youth and elders, persons with disabilities, traders, farmers, professionals, and community leaders.”

Esudu, who ran on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, acknowledged the diverse groups that make up Soroti City and emphasized that his leadership would be inclusive and non-discriminatory.
He stressed that his administration would serve all residents regardless of political affiliation.
In a conciliatory tone, the mayor-elect also extended appreciation to voters who supported other candidates, noting that democracy thrives on participation and diversity of opinion.
“Democracy is strengthened by participation and diversity of views,” he said. “As your Mayor, I pledge to serve all residents of Soroti City without discrimination, guided by unity, integrity, and the common good.”
Esudu paid special tribute to his campaign volunteers, supporters, and families who stood with him throughout the election period.
He described their dedication as a source of motivation during the often-demanding campaign season.
“I am especially grateful to the volunteers who worked tirelessly, the supporters who stood firm in hope, and the families who opened their homes, hearts, and conversations,” Esudu noted, adding that their courage and resilience inspired his campaign.
Political analysts in Teso Sub-region have described Esudu’s victory as a reflection of growing voter confidence in leaders who emphasize unity and service delivery, particularly at a time when urban centres like Soroti City are grappling with infrastructure gaps, unemployment, and rapid urbanization.
The mayor-elect outlined key priorities for his administration, including improved service delivery, promotion of economic opportunities, infrastructure development, and social inclusion.
“I take this mandate with a strong sense of responsibility,” Esudu stated. “I commit to transparent leadership, accountable governance, and people-centred development. Together, we shall work to improve service delivery, promote economic opportunity, strengthen infrastructure, and ensure that no one is left behind.”
He called on citizens, political actors, civil society organizations, the private sector, cultural and religious leaders, as well as development partners to work together in building a peaceful, vibrant, and prosperous Soroti City.
“The work begins now,” he said. “I invite all stakeholders to join hands as we build the Soroti City we all desire.”
Esudu’s message comes at a time when expectations are high among residents, particularly regarding urban planning, youth employment, market development, and sanitation.
Soroti City, one of Uganda’s newest cities, continues to face both opportunities and challenges as it grows into a regional economic hub.
As he prepares to assume office, Esudu emphasized that leadership is a shared responsibility and reaffirmed his commitment to serving with humility and integrity.
“Once again, thank you for your trust,” he concluded. “May God bless you, and may God bless Soroti City.”
Francis Esudu Obwonyo will serve as Mayor of Soroti City for the 2026–2031 term, marking the beginning of what many residents hope will be a period of renewed focus on unity, development, and accountable urban governance.
