Mr. Edeku Peter Edopu, a National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer hopeful for Dakabela County in Soroti District, has vowed to usher in a new era of inclusive and transformative leadership if elected.
Speaking shortly after his official nomination, Edeku declared that his leadership will be focused on providing quality services for all residents, regardless of their political affiliations or social backgrounds.

“Leadership should not discriminate,” Edeku told reporters. “As a leader, I will ensure that everyone in Dakabela County has access to quality services, regardless of their background or political affiliation. I am tired of seeing our people being left behind simply because of who they support or where they come from.”

Dakabela County, historically known as an opposition stronghold, has in recent years experienced shifting political dynamics.
Incumbent MP Cosmas Elotu managed to neutralize the opposition dominance and secure a parliamentary seat under the NRM banner. Now, Edeku is positioning himself as the next transformative leader who will consolidate the gains and take the constituency to new heights.

Outlining his development agenda, Edeku said his leadership will be grounded in action-oriented and consultative principles.
He emphasized the urgent need to address core community challenges through a comprehensive and inclusive approach.
“My leadership will prioritize the needs of the people, not just a select few,” he said.
“We will work tirelessly to improve infrastructure, healthcare, food security, education, and clean water, so that every resident of Dakabela County can live a dignified life.”
Edeku pledged to champion the construction of more feeder roads to link remote villages to markets and services, and to push for improvements in health centers, especially maternal and child care facilities.
He also stressed the importance of agricultural productivity, promising to lobby for farm inputs and value addition facilities to boost household incomes.
On education, Edeku noted the worrying dropout rates and poor school infrastructure in parts of Dakabela.
He committed to working with relevant authorities to improve learning conditions, ensure better supervision of schools, and promote vocational training for youth.
Edeku further denounced the era of what he termed “empty rhetoric and divisive politics,” promising instead a practical and forward-looking style of leadership.
“The era of empty promises, empty talk, and negative ethnicity is over,” he said. “Dakabela shall be a model constituency to cherish. There is new optimism and energy on the horizon, and I am ready to lead this wave of change.”
He emphasized that progress can only be achieved if leaders abandon parochial politics and commit themselves to service delivery and honest engagement with the people.
As political activity heats up ahead of the 2026 general elections, Edeku urged all candidates and their supporters to adopt a peaceful, respectful, and issue-based campaign approach.
“It’s time for each candidate to account for their work in the last five years,” he said. “Those found wanting should be brought back home. Let’s give our people facts and evidence, not insults and divisions.”
He appealed to the electorate to focus on competence, commitment, and the capacity to deliver, rather than party affiliations or personal loyalties.
“I am offering myself as a servant leader,” Edeku concluded. “A leader who listens, consults, and acts in the interest of all. With unity, we shall build a stronger, more prosperous Dakabela.”
