The Member of Parliament for Kasilo County, Hon. Elijah Okupa has strongly called on political leaders to embrace honesty and avoid propaganda during the upcoming campaign and election season.
Speaking during the Parish Day celebration of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Okupa emphasized that politics should not be a platform for deceit but rather a tool to serve the people genuinely.

Addressing Christians and local leaders gathered at the celebration, Hon. Okupa condemned the growing trend of politicians spreading lies, even in sacred places such as churches to gain political mileage.

“Some leaders even come to church functions and lie and speak lies. This is wrong,” Okupa said. “We should not misuse God’s house for politics based on falsehoods. Politicians must commit themselves to truth and integrity.”
With Uganda moving closer to the 2026 general elections, the Kasilo County legislator appealed to fellow politicians to prioritize peace throughout the entire election process.

He urged aspirants to conduct issue based campaigns rather than resorting to intimidation, violence or character assassination.
“We welcome competition because democracy thrives on different ideas. But let us compete in a peaceful and respectful manner.
After all, when the results are announced, life must continue,” Okupa remarked. “There is no need for bloodshed over political offices.”
Okupa also requested the clergy, particularly the bishops and parish priests, to take an active role in guiding politicians towards honesty and humility.
He noted that religious leaders have a moral obligation to speak out against unethical political practices that threaten peace and unity.
“I request our bishop and other church leaders to continue advising us as politicians.
Encourage us to speak the truth and avoid misleading our people.
When leaders lie, they destroy trust and without trust, development cannot happen,” he said.
In his address, Okupa extended his message beyond politicians, cautioning voters against participating in electoral malpractices such as vote rigging and bribery.
He noted that some politicians exploit local people to engage in illegal activities during elections, promising them protection or rewards that never materialize.
“To my people, I want to be clear if you allow yourself to be used to rig elections, when you are caught, those politicians will not come back to rescue you.
They will abandon you,” Okupa warned. “Stay away from electoral crimes.
He urged the community to value their integrity and exercise their democratic rights peacefully and lawfully.

That’s my MP. Thanks for the advice , I wish you colleagues would heed to it we would build a peaceful and a better world for all.
