Celebrated musician David Omara, widely known as 2GB, has announced his intention to challenge Teso Affairs Minister Kenneth Clement Ongalo in the forthcoming elections.
Running on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, 2GB has launched a campaign grounded in unity, youth empowerment, and community development.

Speaking at a press conference in Otuboi Town Council over the weekend, 2GB outlined his vision for a new style of politics, one that transcends traditional rivalries and prioritizes harmony over hostility.

“Some people say politics is a dirty game, but it doesn’t have to be. Politics is about ideas, service, and respect,” he stated.
“Even your closest family member might vote for your opponent, and that’s okay. What matters is that we stay united as brothers and sisters. After elections, we will still live in the same communities. How will you face your neighbor if your campaign was filled with hatred?”

2GB emphasized the need for mutual respect among political contenders and the electorate.
“To gain respect, you must first respect yourself and others. Love, peace, and respect should be at the core of our politics,” he added.
Key to 2GB’s agenda is tackling the persistent issue of unemployment among the youth.
The musician-turned-politician lamented the lack of opportunities for educated young people in the region.
“A lot of our youth have gone to school, but they don’t have jobs. We need to empower them, not just with promises but with real opportunities,” he said.
2GB proposed attracting NGOs to Teso to support initiatives for youth empowerment, skill development, and entrepreneurship.
He noted that as a Member of Parliament, his role would not be to solve every problem directly but to amplify the voices of the community and create platforms for development.
“When you send me to Parliament, you are giving me a louder voice to advocate for our needs. I will push for policies and partnerships that bring jobs and opportunities to our people,” he promised.
In his speech, 2GB highlighted the need for improved infrastructure and social services, including schools and hospitals.
While he acknowledged some progress, he criticized the region’s continued reliance on outdated systems and approaches.
“We are still living in the past. It’s time to wake up and embrace modern solutions. My priority will be to bring sustainable development that benefits everyone, regardless of age, gender, or ability,” he said.
2GB also underlined his commitment to fostering a sense of pride and possibility in the community.
“Most people think that development and happiness are reserved for central Uganda or other regions, but I want to prove that we, too, can achieve greatness. We deserve happiness and prosperity.”
Outside politics, 2GB has been a staunch advocate for nurturing talent, particularly in sports and the arts.
He has organized a football tournament in Kalaki District, introducing innovations like a Golden Boot for the top scorer and a Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper.
The event also featured medals for all participants, including silver medals for runners-up, as well as recognition for the youngest and most disciplined players.
“Talent is important, but character is equally vital. Through sports, we are teaching discipline and maturity. We want our youth to realize that their dreams are valid and achievable,” he explained.
The tournament also included a women’s match, live music from a local band, and acrobatic performances to entertain the community.
“Many of our people have never experienced such events. I want to show them that these things are not just for other regions. We all deserve joy and inspiration,” he said.
2GB concluded his address with a call for unity and inclusivity.
“Development and prosperity should reach everyone in our community. It doesn’t matter your age, height, ability, or disability; we are all human beings deserving of the best for Kalaki and Teso as a whole,” he said.
Kenneth Clement Ongalo, the incumbent Teso Affairs Minister, is a seasoned politician with a strong foothold in the region.
However, 2GB’s candidacy has introduced a fresh dynamic to the race. His grassroots approach, popularity as a musician, and focus on youth empowerment have already garnered significant attention.
