Journalist Simon Peter Egwoku has officially announced his departure from the media industry to contest for the position of Sub County Councillor for Wera Sub County in Amuria District.
Egwoku, who has worked extensively across radio stations in the Teso Sub-region, is now shifting focus to active politics with the hope of representing and serving his home community.

Egwoku, a well-known voice on Kyoga Veritas Radio in Soroti City, has spent over a decade informing and engaging the public through news, talk shows, and community development programs.

Prior to his work at Kyoga Veritas, he also served as a presenter and reporter at Savior FM in Amuria and Delta FM in Soroti, gaining a strong following for his balanced reporting and deep understanding of grassroots issues.
Speaking media on Monday, Egwoku said his decision to leave journalism was not taken lightly, but was inspired by his desire to directly influence change and development at the local level.

“I have been a voice for the people on radio for many years. Now, I feel called to be their voice in the council,” Egwoku said. “I believe in servant leadership, and I want to be at the frontline where decisions are made for the benefit of Wera Sub County.”
His entry into the political race is already attracting attention among both political players and community members in Amuria.
Residents who have followed his career describe Egwoku as an honest, well-informed, and approachable individual with a heart for development and youth empowerment.
“He has always stood for the truth, and we believe he can represent us well,” said Paul Edepu, a voter in Wera. “He knows the issues we face, from poor roads and lack of clean water to unemployment, because he has reported on them for years.”
As the 2026 general elections approach, Egwoku’s candidacy is expected to add weight and visibility to the Wera Sub County councillorship race.
He has promised to run a people-centered campaign, focusing on community engagement, inclusive development, and transparent leadership.
“I am not here to promise what I cannot deliver,” Egwoku stated. “I want to work hand in hand with the people to find lasting solutions to the challenges that affect our homes, farms, schools, and health centers.”
