Over 100 agents and supporters formerly aligned with former Katakwi Woman MP Hon. Viola Akurut and Anuken have publicly declared their full support for the Vice President ahead of the upcoming elections.
The declaration was made on Wednesday afternoon during a gathering in Katakwi Town, where 111 individuals, many of them grassroots mobilisers and former polling agents, announced their defection.

The group was received by Mr. Raymond Odeke, the Personal Assistant to Vice President Alupo, who welcomed them amidst chants of victory and pledges of loyalty.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, several former agents admitted that they had been “misled” in the past but had now come to appreciate the Vice President’s consistent service and commitment to the people.
“We were misled, but now we’ve seen the truth,” said one former agent.

“Vice President Alupo is not just a leader by title, but one in action. She brings water to our villages, supports youth and women, and is always quick to respond to community needs. We have never seen such care before.”
The defectors cited Alupo’s track record in delivering development across Katakwi District, including rural water systems, educational support, women economic empowerment, and health outreach programs, as the main reason for their decision to switch allegiance.
They also pledged to become active mobilisers for the Vice President’s camp, promising to reach out to more undecided voters and rally community support in the run-up to the next elections.
“We are going back to the villages, to the parishes and the wards, to tell people the truth. Alupo is the right leader for Katakwi and Uganda,” added another former Anuken supporter.
Receiving the group, Mr. Raymond Odeke praised the courage of the defectors for “seeing the light” and emphasized that the Vice President’s doors were always open to those ready to serve the people.
“You have made the right decision at the right time. H.E. Alupo is a servant leader, and this movement is about unity, development, and people-centered leadership,” Odeke said.
Political Commentators believe the defection is a major win for Vice President Alupo, reinforcing her grassroots dominance in Katakwi and further weakening the influence of her challengers as the political temperature continues to rise ahead of the 2026 polls.
