The Former Amuria District NRM party chairperson Isaac Omiat Okello has clinched the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag for Amuria District Local Council V (LCV) chairperson, defeating former district boss John Francis Oluma by a landslide.
The announcement was made by Amuria District NRM registrar Erabu John Peter at around 8:00 pm local time, following a day of intense vote tallying and anxiety among the electorate.

According to the final results: Okello Isaac Omiat secured 59,804 votes, Oluma John Francis garnered 25,772 votes, Ecemu Michael trailed with 574 votes and Echodu Emmanuel received 80 votes

The overwhelming win for Okello marks a significant political comeback and is widely seen as a revenge victory over forces that previously pushed him out of NRM leadership in the district.
Notably, Okello had earlier lost his position as the NRM district chairperson to none other than State Minister for Works, Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru, in a tense and polarizing contest within party ranks.

But in a twist of fate, Minister Ecweru’s political trajectory has recently taken a hit. After consolidating influence in the district and removing Omiat from the party chairmanship, Ecweru himself was unseated in the just-concluded party primaries for the Amuria County parliamentary flag bearer position.
Many insiders believe that the political ghosts of Omiat’s ouster came back to haunt Ecweru, culminating in his own defeat at the hands of Samuel Ediau, a relatively less-known but strategic candidate backed by some of Ecweru’s former allies-turned-critics.
For Omiat, the latest victory represents vindication and a resurgence of political fortunes.
The LCV flag now positions him as the frontrunner in the 2026 general elections.
Sources close to the Omiat camp told this publication that their candidate ran a grassroots-focused campaign, reconnecting with local council leaders, farmers, and youth groups that had previously supported his tenure as a party chair.
The results have sent ripples across the political terrain in Amuria, as analysts now believe a shift is underway that could redefine who controls NRM’s influence in the district.
Omiat’s re-emergence is seen not only as a personal win but as a statement that grassroots mobilization and community engagement still matter deeply in Teso politics.
