The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially nominated two senior party leaders (Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Rt. Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi) as contenders for the party’s presidential flagbearer position ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
The announcement was made via the party’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, confirming that the FDC Electoral Commission had successfully concluded the nomination exercise earlier in the day.

The two candidates, both prominent figures within the party, will now begin a nationwide campaign to engage party delegates and pitch their visions for Uganda’s future.

Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, who served as the FDC presidential candidate in the 2021 general elections, brings experience and name recognition to the race.
His candidacy signals a desire to continue the opposition’s challenge to the ruling establishment with consistency and renewed energy.

Rt. Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, a long-serving Secretary General of the FDC and a seasoned legislator, enters the race with a strong record of parliamentary leadership and internal party organization.
His bid is expected to galvanize support from regions that view him as a symbol of party discipline and strategic direction.
The selection of the party’s official presidential flagbearer will take place at the FDC National Delegates’ Conference scheduled for July this year.
Until then, the two candidates will tour various regions to rally support from the over 1,200 voting delegates.
This internal contest is seen as a critical moment for the FDC as it seeks to reassert its place in Uganda’s opposition politics and prepare for a strong challenge in 2026.
The outcome of the flagbearer race will likely shape the party’s messaging and strategy in the crucial months ahead.
The FDC leadership has called for unity, transparency, and democratic maturity throughout the campaign period.
“This is democracy at work within our party,” the Electoral Commission noted, urging all members to respect the process and rally behind the eventual winner.
Whoever emerges as the flagbearer will carry the hopes of the FDC into the 2026 electoral battlefield.
