State Minister for Works and Transport and incumbent Member of Parliament for Amuria County, Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru, has been appointed to a key position in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) following his decision to withdraw from the Amuria County parliamentary race as an independent candidate.
Hon. Ecweru’s withdrawal aligns with the NRM’s directive that independent candidates who lost in party primaries step down and support official flag bearers to ensure unity and reduce vote splitting ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Minister Ecweru revealed that his decision came after consultations with various stakeholders and a private meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Mbale City.

The meeting followed the President’s campaign rally in Bukedea District, where thousands of supporters gathered at Emokor Grounds.
“After the President’s last rally in Teso, I met him in Mbale City where we discussed critical issues. He acknowledged that some primary elections were not conducted well and advised me to focus on the future rather than past mistakes, he asked me to withdraw my independent bid and instead take on a new role in strengthening NRM structures and mobilizing support,” Ecweru said.

Following the discussion, President Museveni appointed Hon. Ecweru as the Overall Regional Mobilizer for NRM in Teso, with extended responsibilities across Bugisu, Karamoja, Lango, and parts of Acholi.
Hon. Ecweru had already begun his mobilisation duties, leading a successful coordination meeting at Mbale Secondary School Grounds, which drew over 16,000 attendees from across the region.
He expressed gratitude to the President for the trust placed in him, describing his new role as “a crucial deployment similar to an army operation.”
“The President has deployed other soldiers behind the commander to secure the ground and ensure victory. My role is to mobilize, strengthen unity, and make sure our message of development reaches every voter,” Ecweru stated.
Minister Ecweru projected a landslide victory for President Museveni in several regions, noting that NRM remains strong in Teso, Bugisu, Karamoja, Bukedi, Lango, Acholi, Western Uganda, and West Nile.
He, however, acknowledged that the main opposition candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), maintains influence in only Buganda and Busoga.
“The President will win by a bigger margin than before. Many people who once doubted him now want to give him a retirement bonus for his service,” Ecweru said.
He also commended the leadership of Vice President Rt. Maj. Jesca Alupo Epel and Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, urging the Iteso community to rally behind such “strong foot soldiers” who can effectively implement government programs.
Hon. Ecweru urged the people of Teso and neighboring regions to fully embrace government wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, noting that the government has released new funds for these programs.
“The government has released more PDM funds, I urge our people to stop neglecting these programs, let’s plan and participate because many are already benefiting,” he emphasized.

Very good Mzee has cleared the tears about Ecweru he did a lot in all these regions he deserved it.
