National Resistance Movement (NRM) Eastern Uganda Vice Chairperson aspirant, David Calvin Echodu, has come out strongly to deny allegations that he has been involved in land grabbing, describing them as “total lies” aimed at tarnishing his image and derailing his political mission.
Addressing NRM delegates from Katakwi, Amuria, and Kapelebyong, Echodu said those accusing him of illegally taking people’s land should come forward and open a case against him in court.

“Whoever says I have grabbed their land should go to court. I have no interest in grabbing anyone’s land,” Echodu stated.

“These are just malicious lies. The land in Inego and other areas is hired on lease. I am not above the law, and if proven guilty, I should be charged. But I will not sit back and watch my name being dragged through the mud. I am soon dragging some of these people to court to clear my name.”
Echodu also addressed claims regarding a piece of land used for golf activities in Soroti, explaining that he had acquired a legitimate lease to utilize the property.

“I secured a lease to use the land for golf. How strong am I to grab government land? This is purely misinformation by some Soroti City leaders. Such lies cannot make us develop,” he said.
Paul Omer, the Mayor of Soroti City East Division, weighed in on the controversy, advising Echodu to engage the public more frequently through radio appearances to explain his position rather than taking a strictly legal route.
“It is important to continuously clarify issues in public spaces. Court cases may take time and could further politicize the matter,” Omer suggested.
Simon Peter Okello, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Amuria District, openly challenged Amuria delegates to rally behind Echodu in his bid for the Eastern Uganda Vice Chairperson seat.
Ambassador Nelson Oceger delivered a passionate speech urging party members to support leaders with “clear minds” and commitment to the NRM cause.
He called upon those who lost in the recent primaries to remain loyal to the party for the greater good.
Oceger praised Echodu for his longstanding contributions to the party and the Teso community, particularly during challenging periods such as insurgencies and floods.
“In 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2021, Mr. Echodu has consistently supported the NRM and its activities. He has been instrumental in relief food distribution, malaria treatment campaigns, and other social interventions. It is this track record that even made President Museveni seek to work closely with him,” Oceger remarked.
He emphasized that if Echodu is entrusted with the regional vice chairmanship, he will be well-positioned to address various structural and mobilization challenges affecting the party in Eastern Uganda.
In his address, Echodu reiterated his commitment to strengthening NRM structures across the region, saying that effective party mobilization depends on well-established grassroots networks.
He outlined his strategy to:
- Lobby financial support for party structures to ensure smooth operations and mobilization activities.
- Identify and mentor young leaders for recruitment and deployment into government programs.
- Promote unity within the party by bridging divides and focusing on shared objectives.
“Our party must be united and well-structured if we are to maintain our stronghold in Eastern Uganda. My focus will be to work with all stakeholders to strengthen the NRM and make it even more effective in delivering services and winning support,” Echodu pledged.
The meeting in Katakwi, Amuria and Kapelebyong is part of Echodu’s wider campaign tour in the Teso sub-region, where he has been meeting delegates, listening to their concerns, and presenting his vision for the party’s future in the east.
Oceger noted that the country at large is watching the Teso sub-region, and that leaders like Echodu have the potential to play a national role in shaping NRM’s political fortunes.
“The whole country supports Echodu because he has proven himself over the years. If given a position, he will address several pressing issues affecting our region,” Oceger said.
