The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has today officially commenced the nomination exercise for party flag bearers for all elective positions ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The two-day nationwide process, running from 16th to 17th June, is taking place at various regional FDC offices, enabling aspiring candidates to pick nomination forms for the respective positions they intend to contest.

In Soroti City, the FDC Electoral Commission has reported an enthusiastic response, with more than 500 candidates turning up on the first day to express interest in positions ranging from Member of Parliament, Mayorship, LC5, LC3, LC1 to various councillorship positions across the Teso sub-region.

Among the notable aspirants nominated by press time include:nAttan Moses Okia, MP Soroti City East, Emaru Peter Patrick, Mayor Soroti City West, Moses Onyait, Mayor Soroti City East, Omer Paul, Soroti City Mayor, Asaku Isaac, Division Mayor Soroti West and Eigu Daniel, MP Soroti County
According to Akello Joyce Mary, Chairperson of the FDC Electoral Commission in Soroti City, the office had by mid-day received 223 aspiring councillors, 15 LC3 candidates across 12 sub-counties, and 325 LC1 candidates.

“We expect over 11 parliamentary aspirants to be nominated in the Soroti region by the close of the exercise, including four from Gweri County. As of now, we have received unopposed candidates from Dakabela and Soroti counties,” Akello stated.
She further confirmed that the nomination exercise will conclude tomorrow, June 17, with more candidates anticipated from surrounding districts.
In one sub-county, two aspirants have already shown interest in the LC3 seat.
The nominations for MPs, LC5 chairpersons, city mayors, and division mayors will also take place on the final day of the exercise.
Once the nomination process is complete, candidates vying for the same position will proceed to party primaries.
The winner from each race will be declared the official FDC party flag bearer for the respective position in the upcoming 2026 elections.
Meanwhile Daniel Eigu one of the candidates in Soroti County has revealed that he is ready to end MP Patrick Aeku’s parliamentary tenure.
