Soroti City has successfully concluded peaceful, free, and fair National Youth Council (NYC) elections, following a nationwide reschedule by the NRM electoral commission.
The earlier elections had been suspended due to petitions from some youth candidates citing cases of violence.

Presiding over the exercise in Soroti, Justine Okello, the NRM electoral officer, described the process as smooth and transparent.

He noted that youth delegates turned up in large numbers and patiently lined up to vote for candidates of their choice.
“Today we are handling national elections for the NRM structures and youth members of parliament. The process has been peaceful, and that has made our work very easy,” Okello said.

He thanked the delegates for conducting themselves with discipline, adding, “We love you, our youth, the way we love the NRM party, and we pray for this spirit to continue.”
In the results, Tanga Collins emerged winner of the National Youth Chairperson position with 13 votes, while his opponent Kichocho did not register any vote.
For the five Vice Chairperson positions, all candidates Ome Samuel Omaria (Northern), Tuyizere John Bosco (Western), Semundu Ivan (Central), Epitu Gabi (Karamoja), and Jooga Suleiman (Kampala) secured 14 votes each, with their opponents failing to register votes.
The General Secretary race saw a competitive tally: Adong Collin Okidi (4 votes), Luke Logiro (3), Nyafono Irene (4), and Ahereza Natasha (3). For National Publicity, Okello Isaac won overwhelmingly with 13 votes.
In the Eastern Youth MP elections, Eonu Herbert triumphed with 16 votes, while rivals Otaya Gabriel, Hussain Ibra, Omaria Emmanuel, and Tino Christine recorded none.
NRM Soroti City Chairperson, John Enomu, applauded the government for its financial and logistical support that ensured the exercise was transparent and credible.
“No one can complain; the elections were free and fair. We thank the government and the registrar for the great work done,” he said.
John Baptist Emukoki, Vice Chairperson of the Soroti City NRM Youth League, expressed confidence in the elected leaders.
“In Soroti, we trusted our own son with an anonymous vote. He has a vision for Eastern Uganda, and we believe his leadership in parliament will impact not only Soroti City but the entire country,” he noted.
Apimo Mercy, General Secretary of the Soroti City Youth League, also commended the process.
“The NRM party planned well for this election after the suspension. We are leaving here happy because the party has allowed us to exercise our democratic right,” she said.
