Amid growing public criticism over the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) consistent failure to secure elective positions in Soroti City, Soroti Woman MP aspirant Amulo Emilly Sheila has firmly dismissed claims that the party’s setbacks are due to weak leadership.
Amulo, who was addressing the media at the Sanctuary Meat House in Campswahili, Soroti City, disagreed with the narrative that the NRM fields self-centered leaders who focus only on personal gain.

She expressed strong confidence that this electoral season will mark a turning point for the party in Soroti City.

“This is the first of its kind. NRM is going to win all elective positions in Soroti City. We are coming in full force, organized, and focused,” Amulo declared.
“Through joint campaigns, as planned by the NRM, voters will have the opportunity to choose the right leaders, ensuring a sweeping win for the party in the city.”

Amulo, who served as a youth councillor for Soroti Municipality from 2016 to 2021 and later as Deputy Speaker of the Soroti Municipal Council, is currently a youth representative under the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
She has now officially joined the race for Soroti City Woman MP on the NRM ticket and has already been nominated for the party primaries.
During her campaign launch, Amulo unveiled her ambitious manifesto, which prioritizes transparency, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, poverty reduction, and support for the agriculture sector.
A passionate advocate for the youth, Amulo emphasized the urgency of tackling unemployment in Soroti City.
“The youth are the majority and the biggest victims of unemployment,” she said.
“We must engage them in development programs, attract investors to create job opportunities, and provide skills training that enables self-reliance and entrepreneurship.”
Drawing from her own entrepreneurial journey, Amulo shared her personal story of rising from humble beginnings to becoming a community leader.
“If I made it, many other young people can. I am ready to guide them,” she said.
Amulo highlighted dire conditions at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, including understaffing, poor infrastructure, and a shortage of maternal care resources.
“We need to lobby for better healthcare facilities. Women are delivering on the floor due to lack of beds, and this must end,” she stressed.
She also pointed to the education crisis in the city, citing dilapidated classrooms that force children to learn under trees.
“This is unacceptable. We need urgent intervention to construct and rehabilitate schools.”
Amulo praised government programs like the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) and the GROW initiative for uplifting women.
“As a woman, I understand the struggles women face. I will ensure their voices are heard and their issues addressed,” she pledged.
On city sanitation, Amulo promised to work closely with authorities and citizens to improve garbage management and cleanliness through community sensitization and mindset change.
The candidate also committed to tackling corruption and illegal land grabbing in Soroti.
“We must hold our city authorities accountable and protect public resources,” she said.
Amulo concluded by urging voters to remain focused and choose a leader who is committed to serving with integrity.
“I ask for your support. I have the heart to serve, the experience to lead, and the determination to represent Soroti City with honor in Parliament. Let us have a free and fair election and avoid unnecessary conflicts.”
As the NRM primaries approach, Amulo Emilly Sheila stands among several women vying for the Soroti City Woman MP position, each presenting their vision for the city.
However, with her extensive leadership background and community engagement, Amulo believes she is the right candidate to deliver meaningful change.
