Excitement is sweeping across Teso sub-region as all preparations are complete for the much-anticipated homecoming of David Calvin Echodu, a prominent National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilizer and aspiring candidate for the NRM Vice Chairperson (Eastern Uganda) position on the Central Executive Committee (CEC).
The event is scheduled to take place today at Soroti Sports Ground and is expected to attract thousands of supporters, party officials, youth leaders, and local dignitaries.

Echodu, who has been instrumental in grassroots mobilization and youth empowerment programs across Teso and Eastern Uganda, is being welcomed back home in a celebration that many see as both a thanksgiving and a strategic political declaration.

The event is themed “A New Dawn for Eastern Uganda”, reflecting the aspirant’s message of inclusive leadership, renewed party energy, and community transformation.
According to Peter Edeku Edepu the Chairperson Organizing Committee, the Soroti Sports Ground has been decorated in NRM colors, and local entertainers, cultural troupes, and choirs will perform throughout the day.

Security agencies and event marshals have been deployed to ensure the safety and smooth running of the celebration.
Echodu’s return comes at a time when the race for the influential NRM CEC position for Eastern Uganda is gaining momentum ahead of the 2025 internal elections.
If elected, he will take on one of the most critical roles in shaping party strategy, mobilization, and leadership in the region.
Sources within the party say he is viewed as a fresh and formidable candidate who resonates with both the youth and elders, combining modern ideas with grassroots touch.
“This homecoming is not just Echodu’s personal milestone,” Edeku told reporters ahead of the event. “It is a moment for us to reflect on the kind of leadership we need in Eastern Uganda. Leadership that listens, serves, and empowers every household.”
The current CEC Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, Capt. Mike Mukula, has held the position for several terms, but with calls for internal reforms and new faces, the 2025 race is shaping up to be highly competitive.
Echodu is positioning himself as a unifier who can bridge generational gaps and reposition the NRM’s agenda in the region.
Party loyalists and local leaders from various districts including Kumi, Ngora, Serere, Katakwi, and Bukedea are in attendance, alongside NRM youth league representatives and women’s groups.
As the sun rises over Soroti today, all eyes will be on the Sports Ground where a young leader’s political journey takes a bold new step.
