Police at Serere Central Police Station have launched an investigation into a suspected murder by strangulation.
The case was reported under DEF 003/2024 by D/CPL Etoori David, a police officer attached to the Atiira Police Post in Serere District, and a resident of Atiira Sub County.

The victim, Rev. Canon Ediu Paul, a 70-year-old retired priest, was a resident of Agiret Village, Alengo Parish, Atiira Sub County in Serere District. The incident occurred on Monday at an unknown time.

Damalie Nachuha, the East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, confirmed the arrest of one suspect, Etanu Isaac, a 21-year-old male and the deceased’s son.
According to Nachuha, the suspect will assist in the investigation, as he had been living in the same house as the deceased.

It is alleged that on December 3, 2024, around 12:30 PM, the body of the deceased was discovered inside his home, which he shared with his son, who is now the primary suspect.
Meanwhile, the Church of Uganda Soroti Diocese has announced the burial arrangements for the late Rev. Canon.
The deceased was a retired priest and Canon of the Church, having faithfully served God and risen through the ranks.
In addition to serving in several parishes, including Ojetenyang and Olwa in Serere District, he was also once the Archdeacon of Amuria.
According to the burial program, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the body will be picked up from Bethesda Hospital at 12:00 PM. It will then be taken to Olwa Parish in Kasilo Archdeaconry, his last station of ministry.
A service will be held at the Parish Centre Church at 2:00 PM.
Following the service, the body will be brought to his ancestral home in Agiret Village, Alengo Parish, Atiira Sub County, Serere District, for a night vigil.
The burial will take place on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at his ancestral home, beginning at 11:00 AM.
