Police in Soroti District are investigating the brutal murder of a 24-year-old man, allegedly stemming from a long-standing land dispute.
The incident, which occurred on January 25, 2025, in Obuletera Village, Dokolo Parish, Gweri Sub-county, has led to the arrest of six suspects.

The victim, identified as Oliach John Paul, was a resident of Akisim Village in the same parish.

According to reports, the deceased was last seen alive after being invited by one of the suspects, Ocen Martin, to attend a local disco.
He was found dead the following morning in a nearby bush along a pathway, with visible stab wounds on his upper shoulder.

The murder was reported to Gweri Police Station on January 26, 2025, by Ms. Akiteng Mary, the 57-year-old Chairperson of LCI for Obuletera Village.
According to Ms. Akiteng, the victim had been embroiled in a protracted land wrangle with his grandfather, Eguru Leonard, aged 97.
Tensions reportedly escalated when Eguru’s son, Eiru Moses, threatened to kill Oliach in the days leading up to the murder.
On the evening of January 25, Ocen allegedly approached Oliach while he was having supper with his wife and invited him to the disco.
Oliach initially declined but later followed Ocen.
Tragically, he did not return home that night, and his lifeless body was discovered the next morning.
The Six suspects in police custody include; Ocen Martin, Eceku Julius, Walinta Stephen, Enyalu Musa, Eguru Leonard, and Eiru Moses
The East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, Damalie Nachuha, confirmed the arrests and revealed that initial investigations suggest the murder was premeditated, likely linked to the land dispute.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
The body of the deceased has been transported to Nakatunya City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Ms. Nachuha condemned the act, urging residents to resolve disputes through lawful channels rather than resorting to violence.
“I highly condemn this level of lawlessness. It is important that matters are settled by the recommended authorities rather than taking someone’s life,” she stated.
