The Teso-Karamoja Regional Assistant Mufti (RAM), Sheikh Obilan Abubakar Umar, convened a regional meeting bringing together key Muslim leaders from Kumi, Teso, Kotido, and Karamoja Muslim Districts.

The meeting, attended by District Kadhis, members of the General Assembly, District Chairmen, and County Sheikhs, focused on regional development initiatives.

During the session, Sheikh Obilan launched the Mosque Membership Register, which is set to begin on Friday, March 7, 2025, coinciding with the start of the fasting season in the holy month of Ramadan.
He urged leaders to actively mobilize Muslims for registration, emphasizing that accurate data is essential for effective planning.

“Resource allocation will be easy and more meaningful with accurate information,” he stated, highlighting the importance of data-driven strategies for community development.
The regional meeting also reviewed the progress of various initiatives, including educational scholarships for primary and secondary school students, which was cited as a major achievement.
Additionally, Sheikh Obilan unveiled the building plan for new regional offices, to be located in Camp-Swahili, opposite the Muslim Cemetery.
Leaders were called upon to mobilize ugx500 million for the construction, which is scheduled to commence on Friday, March 14, 2025.
To enhance service delivery, Sheikh Obilan announced plans to establish new units within his office, including a Monitoring and Evaluation Unit and a Research and Planning Unit.
These additions aim to improve governance and accountability within the regional Muslim leadership.
Sheikh Obilan expressed gratitude to the Mufti of Uganda for his commitment to the North Eastern Muslim Region, noting that its creation from the Eastern Muslim Region was a significant step in affirmative action.
He also commended President Yoweri Museveni for fostering peace, stability, and freedom of worship in Uganda.
