Police in Serere CPS have launched investigations into a suspected murder by assault that occurred on December 24, 2024, at around 11:30 pm at Agule Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) in Ocuko Village, Omagara Parish, Kateta Sub County, Serere District.
The incident was reported on December 26, 2024, at 9:00 am by one Erutu Joseph, a 38-year-old peasant and resident of Agigiroi Village, Omagara Parish, Kateta Sub County, Serere District.

According to a police statement issued by East Kyoga RPC Damalie Nachuha, the case has been registered under Vide DEF 005/2024, SERERE CPS.

Nachuha identified the deceased as Pastor Ekamu John Michael, a 52-year-old pastor of Agule Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) and a resident of Osokotoit Village, Kateta Parish, Kateta Sub County, Serere District.
The suspect has been identified as Osagani, a 30-year-old son of Ogwang Simon and a resident of Mutebe Village, Omagara Parish, Kateta Sub County, Serere District.

In her statement, Nachuha narrated that on December 24, 2024, at around 11:30 pm, Osagani, who had just returned from Kampala, was taken to the PAG church for prayers by his father.The father claimed that his son was being attacked by demons.
“In the process of praying for him, he kicked the pastor (deceased), causing him to fall. Prayers continued, and the person who had been brought for prayers, along with some worshippers and the pastor, spent the night in the church,” reads the statement.
On Christmas morning, December 25, 2024, during prayers at the same church, the pastor collapsed on the pulpit at around 8:30 am. He was then seated on a chair. Worshippers offered to take him to a health center, but he refused, stating, “The devil has been defeated.” However, his condition worsened, and he was rushed to Serere Health Center IV. An X-ray revealed cuts on his pancreas. He was taken to the theater for an operation at around 3:00 pm but later succumbed to his injuries.
His body has been taken to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital pending a postmortem examination.
