During his Sunday homily at the Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Parish, Dakabela, Rev. Fr. Marcel Ajoket delivered a deeply spiritual message reminding Christians that the key to overcoming life’s challenges lies in constant prayer and the word of God.
“If you want to manage the battles in your life, there are only two things, constant prayers and God’s word,” Fr. Ajoket emphasized, drawing inspiration from the story of Moses’ prayer during Israel’s battle against the Amalekites.

He explained that every believer faces daily struggles, spiritual, emotional, or physical but the sure path to victory is faith rooted in persistent communication with God.

“Prayer is not a one-time act,” he said. “It is a lifestyle that must be lived daily. You cannot only pray on Sunday and expect miracles throughout the week.”
Fr. Ajoket challenged Christians who only remember God during Sunday services, noting that even then, some fail to concentrate during prayer time.

“There are people who only pray on Sunday, and even on that day, they are not attentive. Instead of listening to the word of God, they spend time criticizing the choir or the priest’s preaching,” he observed.
According to him, this attitude weakens a believer’s spiritual foundation and denies them the full blessing that comes from sincere prayer.
He reminded the faithful that God responds to those who remain steadfast and genuine in their devotion.
“God cannot fail to answer your prayers as long as you are consistent. He will answer you at His appointed time,” Fr. Ajoket assured the congregation.
“They don’t say pray and God will answer you immediately, it is about persistent prayer.”
He cautioned against expecting instant results from God, explaining that divine answers often require patience and faith.
“God is not a witch who responds to people’s requests immediately,” he said. “He takes time to answer, but when He does, His answers are permanent.”
Drawing from the biblical story of Moses, Aaron, and the Israelites, Fr. Ajoket illustrated how teamwork and mutual support play a crucial role in overcoming difficulties.
“When Moses was praying with his hands raised, he grew tired, and Aaron and Hur helped him by holding his hands up. That is when the Israelites prevailed over the Amalekites,” he said.
He used this example to teach that some challenges in life cannot be faced alone. “There are battles we cannot manage on our own. We need others to stand with us in prayer, in faith and in encouragement,” he added.
Fr. Ajoket urged the congregation to build a community of faith, one that supports one another, uplifts the weak, and works together to spread the word of God.
“Let us learn to hold each other’s hands like Aaron did for Moses. Support your fellow Christians in their spiritual journeys,” he said.
He also encouraged believers to extend their support to priests and church ministries, emphasizing that evangelization requires collective effort.
“Support the spread of God’s word to different places,” he said. “When you support the priest and the Church, you are helping the gospel reach more souls who are still in darkness.”
Concluding his homily, Fr. Ajoket called on the faithful to strengthen their personal relationship with God through prayer and scripture reading.
He reminded them that faith without persistence leads to spiritual weakness, but a life anchored in prayer and the word of God remains unshaken even in the face of trials.
“Be consistent, be patient and always remain in prayer,” he said with conviction. “When you live in constant prayer and in God’s word, no battle in life can defeat you.”
