Rev. Canon Paul Ediu of Church of Uganda Soroti Diocese, was last night brutally murdered in his residence in Serere District.
Damalie Nachuha, the East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, confirmed the murder, saying that the matter was reported vide DEF 003/2024 by D/CPL Etoori David a police officer attached to Atiira Police Post in Serere District and a resident of Atiira Sub County in Serere District of one
Rtd Rev Canon Ediu Paul a male adult aged 70 years is a resident of Agiret Village, Alengo Parish, Atiira Sub County in Serere District.
According to Nachuha, this murder occured on last night at unknown time.
The police have also confirmed the arrest One suspect Etanu Isaac (son to the deceased) a male adult aged 21 years old.
It is alleged that on 03/12/2024 at around 1230/c, the deceased was found dead inside his house which he shared with one of his sons(who is now the suspect).
When contacted for more information, Rev. Samuel Ediau, the Diocesan Secretary for Soroti Church of Uganda, acknowledged the tragic loss but stated that he was still in the process of gathering more details.
“I am still in the process of gathering facts regarding this unfortunate incident,” Rev. Ediau told the press. “However, I can confirm that the body is at Bethesda Mortuary for further management.”
Rev. Canon Paul Ediu was a well-known and loved figure within the Church of Uganda Soroti Diocese.
Rev. Ediu’s murder is one of several recent high-profile killings in the region, prompting calls for greater security measures to protect both the public and religious leaders.
The Church of Uganda Soroti Diocese is expected to release an official statement once a more detailed report on the incident is received.
