President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called upon cultural leaders across Uganda to foster unity, cultural dignity, and social transformation among their communities.
The President’s message was delivered by the Speaker of Parliament and Woman Member of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, during the 3rd Coronation Anniversary of His Royal Highness Emorimor Papa Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng III held in Bukedea District.

In her remarks, Speaker Among warmly welcomed guests to Bukedea and expressed gratitude to the Emorimor for his visionary leadership, particularly in promoting education within the Teso sub-region.

“The people of Bukedea and Teso at large are grateful to the Emorimor for prioritizing education as a key to success,” she said, adding that the government remains committed to supporting cultural institutions through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
The Speaker further pledged UGX 5 million towards the Akaliat Development Foundation (AKADEF) a project launched to promote girl child education in Teso.

She reaffirmed the government’s continued partnership with the Emorimor in advancing cultural and educational development.
Delivering President Museveni’s message, Among conveyed the President’s warm congratulations to the Emorimor and the Iteso community on reaching this significant milestone.
“Three years ago, you were entrusted with the cultural leadership of the Teso people. Today, we celebrate the achievements realized under your reign,” the President’s message read.
President Museveni through his message emphasized the importance of cultural leadership in preserving people’s identity, language, and customs, while also commending the Teso Kingdom for embracing the NRM government’s projects on wealth creation, which aim to trigger social and economic transformation.
Highlighting Uganda’s progress, the President noted that peace and stability have been restored, modern infrastructure such as roads and power dams have been developed, and human resources strengthened through universal education and mass immunization.
However, he urged leaders to help citizens translate these achievements into household wealth and jobs for young people.
“Development is only meaningful when it results in jobs and wealth for families. The Iteso community must be mobilized to join sectors such as commercial agriculture, industries, and ICT,” the message read.
The President further encouraged cultural and political leaders to embrace unity, tolerance, and coexistence among different tribes, stressing the importance of prioritizing shared interests over identity.
“Our philosophy in the NRM is that interests are stronger than identity. Let us work together in the interest of the people,” he stated on letter.
In his concluding remarks, President Museveni pledged continuous government support to the Teso Kingdom in all its initiatives and prayed for Emorimor’s reign to continue in peace, wisdom, and prosperity.
