A tragic road accident that occurred on Tuesday morning along the Soroti–Moroto highway in Katakwi District has claimed the life of one person, leaving two others with minor injuries.

The incident happened at around 10:00 a.m. near Usuk Trading Centre, shocking local residents and travelers who witnessed the horrific scene.

The deceased has been identified as Bosco Okiror, a 50-year-old resident of Awojaitoi village, Olelai Parish, Abarilela Sub-county in Amuria District.
Okiror, a well-known fish dealer operating between Katakwi and Amuria, was riding a motorcycle registration number UDV 066Q when the accident occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, Okiror was joining the main highway from a feeder road when he was hit by a speeding double cabin Toyota Hilux belonging to a telecom company.
The vehicle, which bore registration number UBH 303U, was reportedly transporting flue and equipment intended for servicing telecom masts in the Karamoja sub-region.
An eyewitness, Joseph Osele, who arrived moments after the accident, recounted that the deceased appeared to have misjudged the distance of the oncoming vehicle as he tried to merge onto the highway.
“Bosco was entering the main road from the small path near the petrol station. The vehicle came fast from the Soroti side and hit him instantly. We rushed to see if he was still breathing, but he was already gone.”
The impact reportedly threw Okiror several meters away, killing him on the spot.
His motorcycle was completely damaged beyond repair, while the vehicle suffered a shattered bumper and minor dents.
The driver and another passenger in the Hilux, whose identities had not yet been confirmed by press time, narrowly survived thanks to the deployment of airbags.
Witnesses said the two appeared in shock but escaped with no visible injuries.
They reportedly took a boda-boda to Katakwi Central Police Station immediately after the incident to report the matter and seek assistance.
The body of the deceased was later taken to Katakwi General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death.
The hospital authorities said arrangements were underway to hand over the body to relatives for burial.
Bosco Okiror is survived by a wife and four children.
He will be remembered by the Katakwi and Amuria trading communities as a hardworking man who supported his family through fish vending.

It’s so sad may his soul rest in eternal peace
