Residents of Omodoi Subcounty in Katakwi District were left in shock this morning, September 30, 2025, after returning from their gardens to discover a gruesome murder.

A young mother was found lying in a pool of blood, brutally hacked to death, while her two-month-old baby miraculously survived.

The deceased, Teddy Ijongat, a resident of Akimit Village, Omodoi Parish, was killed by her concubine, Charles Eduwan, who allegedly struck her on the head with an axe.
Eduwan reportedly attacked her for reconciling with her husband and returning to her marital home.

The incident occurred at around 8:00 a.m. as Ijongat was on her way to Omodoi Health Center II to take her infant for routine immunization.
Ijongat had recently separated from her husband, Richard Adenya, due to extramarital affairs and briefly lived with Eduwan.
However, after clan elders intervened,
Ijongat reconciled with Adenya and returned home, a decision that reportedly infuriated Eduwan.
According to John Aporu, LCIII Chairperson of Omodoi Subcounty, the community has witnessed a worrying rise in murder cases, with at least four recorded in the past four years.
He attributed this trend to extramarital affairs, poverty, broken marital vows, and escalating family disputes.
Several residents, including Joseph Okiror of Abule Village, revealed that Eduwan had previously issued death threats against Ijongat following the clan’s decision.
Villagers further described Eduwan as a known marijuana addict with a violent past, claiming he once murdered his wife years ago after returning from Kampala to find her in another relationship.
Police from Katakwi Central Police Station swiftly responded and apprehended Eduwan.
He is currently in custody at Katakwi CPS, while the body of the deceased has been taken to Katakwi General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
