While celebrating a decade of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Parish – Olio in Serere District, Bishop Joseph Eciru of the Soroti Catholic Diocese called on Christians to boldly profess their faith, emphasizing that faith is the foundation for spiritual growth and success in life.
During his homily, Bishop Eciru reflected on the Gospel passage where Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” He noted that just as Peter proclaimed Jesus as “the Christ, the Son of the living God,” Christians today must also courageously testify to their faith.

He stressed that acknowledging Christ in daily life strengthens one’s spiritual journey and brings divine blessings.

“Success in life is not just about material wealth but about spiritual fulfillment. It is through faith in Christ that we find true purpose, guidance, and prosperity,” Bishop Eciru told the congregation.
He urged the faithful to be firm in their Christian identity, especially in a world where religious convictions are increasingly challenged.

Bishop Eciru passionately called on Catholics to actively embrace and proclaim their faith, likening it to joining a victorious team—”Team Jesus.”
He reminded Christians that being part of Christ’s mission means living according to His teachings, defending the Gospel, and witnessing to the world.
“Many people openly identify with different political or social movements, but as Christians, we should be proud to identify with Christ. If we are truly His followers, we must profess our faith without fear or hesitation,” he said.
He encouraged parishioners to not only attend church services but to live out their faith in their daily interactions by showing love, honesty, and integrity.
Bishop Eciru also urged Catholics to regularly recite the Profession of Faith Prayer, which affirms belief in the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
He cited the Gospel of Matthew, where Jesus declared Peter as the rock upon which He would build His Church (Matthew 16:18).
“The Catholic Church is founded on the apostles, and it is our duty to uphold and defend this sacred tradition,” he said.
He encouraged parents and catechists to teach young people about the significance of the Catholic faith and the importance of professing it wholeheartedly.
The celebration at St. Peter the Apostle – Olio Catholic Parish marked ten years of evangelization, community service, and spiritual growth.
