Teso Boarding Primary School in Soroti District is celebrating outstanding success in the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), as results released by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) show a remarkable improvement in performance compared to the previous year.
Out of the 83 candidates who sat for the exams, 56 pupils passed in Division One, 26 in Division Two, and only one pupil obtained Division Three.
This marks a significant improvement from the 2024 results, where the school registered only 20 pupils in Division One.

Among the top performers were three pupils with 5 aggregates, five with 6 aggregates, five with 7 aggregates, nine with 8 aggregates, and five with 9 aggregates. Twenty-six pupils scored between 13 and 17 aggregates.

Speaking with excitement, Awudo Nabwire, who scored 11 aggregates, shared her experience of the exams.
“At first, I was scared because there were rumours that the exams were hard,” she said. “But when I started, the questions were easy to understand. My teachers taught us in a way that made everything clear. My mother helped me with science, and my brother supported me in maths. I want to become a doctor so that I can treat people who are sick. I was inspired after losing my grandmother, whom I loved so much.”
The head teacher, Mr. Bernard William Okello, attributed the school’s impressive results to teamwork, improved teaching methods, and a deliberate focus on competence-based learning in line with UNEB’s new assessment model.
“After analyzing our 2024 results, we realized the need for change,” Mr. Okello explained. “We reviewed our weaknesses, updated our teaching materials, and trained our teachers to adapt to UNEB’s competence-based assessment system.”
He emphasized that the school replaced outdated textbooks with updated editions and used feedback reports from external assessments to identify and address areas of weakness.
“We also organized teacher training sessions to equip our staff with modern teaching skills and ensure they understood the new assessment format,” he added. “Our learners were disciplined, parents were cooperative, and management ensured teachers were motivated and paid on time.”

Mr. Richard Omusei, the Resident Director of Teso Boarding Primary School and Halcyon Schools, praised the teachers, parents, and pupils for their collective effort in achieving this milestone.
“This performance is extremely good, and I am very excited,” he said. “I appreciate our teachers for their dedication and the parents for trusting us with their children. I personally ensured that the school environment was conducive for learning by motivating and facilitating teachers and providing all the necessary academic materials.”
Mr. Omusei noted that timely payment of salaries and provision of scholastic materials played a key role in boosting teacher morale and performance.
With this year’s success, Teso Boarding Primary School has once again cemented its reputation as one of the leading academic institutions in the Teso Sub-region.
The school administration pledged to maintain the high standards and continue nurturing future leaders through quality education, discipline, and hard work.
