The Woman Member of Parliament for Soroti District, Anna Ebaju Adeke together with Priests of Soroti Catholic Diocese have called on parents and community members to prioritize education, emphasizing its role in shaping successful futures for their children and the nation at large.
Speaking during a thanksgiving Mass for Rev. Fr. Denis Egili at Katine Orieta B, Adeke, who was the guest of honour, urged Christians not to take education lightly but rather to invest in it as a vital pillar for individual and community transformation.

Adeke used both her own life story and that of Rev. Fr. Egili to illustrate how education is the foundation of achievement.

“Fr. Egili has become a priest because he had the opportunity to go to school,” she noted.
“I also stand before you today as a Member of Parliament because I went to school. There’s no shortcut to success without education.”

Her remarks echoed sentiments made earlier in the Mass by Rev. Fr. Patrick Ochela, the parish priest of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Parish, Asamuk who delivered the homily.
Fr. Ochela challenged the faithful to take education seriously, encouraging parents not to deny their children the opportunity to learn, regardless of challenges.
“Parents,” Fr. Ochela urged, “send your children to school. Let us not wait until it is too late. Education opens doors. We are celebrating Rev. Fr. Egili today because he chose the path of education and faith.”
Adeke also thanked the church for continuously playing a key role in promoting education in the Teso sub-region.
She acknowledged that churches, especially the Catholic Church, have been at the forefront of establishing and managing schools both at primary and secondary levels.
Rev. Fr. Egili, visibly emotional during the celebration, thanked the congregation for their support and prayers.
He encouraged young people to remain focused and committed to their dreams, urging them to take their education seriously as a form of worship and service to God and community.
