Kapelebyong District has recorded a modest outcome in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), with only 22 candidates achieving Division One out of the 1,136 students who registered and sat for the exams.

Emmanuel Opio, the Information Officer for Kapelebyong District Local Government, highlighted the results, noting that while the district continues to struggle with overall performance, there has been a gradual improvement in recent years.

“We are celebrating the 22 candidates who passed in Division One. While this may seem small, it reflects progress for a district historically known for low academic achievement,” Opio stated.
Out of the 1,136 candidates:

- 22 achieved Division One.
- 695 passed in Division Two.
- 575 achieved Division Three.
- 202 passed in Division Four.
- 150 were ungraded (Division U).
- 10 registered candidates did not sit for the exams.
Opio credited the slight improvement to the district leadership’s active role in monitoring and supervising school activities, coupled with the commitment of students and parents.
He applauded the efforts to provide basic necessities to learners, which he said contributed to the results.
Kapelebyong District has consistently ranked among the lowest-performing districts in Uganda’s PLE results.
However, the district has shown signs of gradual improvement over the last five years:
- 2018: 41 Division One out of 1,731 candidates (2.4%).
- 2019: 17 Division One out of 1,698 candidates (1.0%).
- 2020: 10 Division One out of 1,752 candidates (0.6%).
- 2022: 35 Division One out of 1,860 candidates.
- 2023: 24 Division One out of 1,438 candidates (1.66%).
Despite these modest gains, the district continues to grapple with challenges, including inadequate resources, teacher shortages, and high dropout rates.
Kapelebyong’s leaders have called for more investment in education to ensure sustained improvement.
“We need to prioritize teacher training, infrastructure development, and access to learning materials if we want to see better outcomes in the future,” Opio emphasized.
While the district celebrates its 22 Division One results, it also acknowledges the need for greater efforts to uplift the education standards for all learners in Kapelebyong.
