The Government of Uganda, through the Office of the Prime Minister under the Ministry of Teso Affairs, has officially launched the distribution of iron sheets in the Teso sub-region for the 2024/2025 financial year.
The initiative targets the rehabilitation of dilapidated government-aided schools to provide a better and safer learning environment for pupils.

In the first phase of the program, Soroti Demonstration Primary School has received 700 iron sheets to support the construction of a new three-classroom block.

The school, which serves more than 1,500 pupils, has been grappling with outdated and overcrowded structures, making learning conditions difficult for both students and teachers.
While officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony and handover of the iron sheets, Dr. Kenneth Ongalo-Obote, Minister of State for Teso Affairs, reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming educational infrastructure in the region.

“This is a deliberate step by the government to ensure that our children have access to quality learning spaces. The Teso sub-region has long faced infrastructural challenges, but with continued investment, we are changing that story,” Dr. Ongalo said.
The initiative, he added, is in line with the NRM government’s manifesto promise to enhance access to quality education across Uganda by investing in school facilities and learning materials.
School administrators and local leaders, including members of the opposition in Soroti City, welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention that puts learners first.
“The pupils have been studying under very difficult conditions. With this support, we can now provide them a more conducive environment that promotes concentration and academic excellence,” said Joshua Edogu the Soroti City Mayor.
The project is expected to cover more schools across the Teso sub-region in subsequent phases, focusing on areas with the most urgent infrastructural needs.

A conducive learning environment tunes learners ability to understand and take in knowledge. I commend the Hon Minister of State for Teso Affairs for his efforts.
There’s yet another old school, Apeero Primary in Magoro Katakwi District which deserves attention. Thank you.
