Halcyon High School, Soroti campus, has awarded 40 Senior Six students a total of UGX 4 million as a token of appreciation for their loyalty and commitment to completing their education at the institution.
Each student walked away with UGX 100,000 during the school’s Prayer Dinner and Confirmation Day, which also included the blessing of 658 Senior Four and 211 Senior Six candidates, and the confirmation of 52 students into the Eucharistic life.

The awards were handed over by the school’s proprietor, Hon. Hellen Adoa, Minister of State for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) and Woman MP for Serere.

She emphasized that the gesture is part of Halcyon’s long-standing tradition of recognizing students who begin their education at the school in Senior One and successfully complete the journey up to Senior Six.
“This culture of giving pocket money to our consistent students did not start today or because I joined active politics. It has been part of Halcyon’s commitment to appreciating students and parents who trust us with education,” Hon. Adoa said.

Headteacher, Mr. Paul Mark Onyait, explained that the school runs a unique partial sponsorship program where parents of students from Senior One through Senior Six enjoy reduced fees.
“Every term, UGX 100,000 is deducted from the fees. When students reach UACE, they also qualify for this special handshake,” he said.
He further revealed that families with four children in Halcyon schools only pay for three, while the fourth child studies free.
Highlighting Halcyon’s broader education support, Hon. Adoa noted that the school offers full bursaries to all first-grade pupils in PLE from government schools in Serere District, while children from other districts with aggregates 4–6 receive full scholarships, those with 7–9 half sponsorship, and 10–12 quarter sponsorships.
“Additionally, students who top their classes are exempted from paying fees for the next term, provided they maintain their performance,” she added.
The Minister also announced 20 full scholarship opportunities for students from Karamoja region, starting next academic year, provided they achieve first grades.
At the same event, Hon. Adoa cautioned candidates against being lured into political manipulation, especially during the heated campaign season.
“Do not allow politicians to use you for violence or social media abuse. Remember, politicians want votes, not violence, and when trouble comes, they will not defend you,” she warned.
She encouraged students to focus on their academics, avoid misuse of technology, and adopt a developmental mindset.
Parents’ representatives and students lauded the management and teachers for their commitment to academic excellence.
Many appreciated Halcyon’s scholarship and sponsorship programs, saying they have relieved financial burdens and opened doors for bright learners from less privileged backgrounds.
