Airtel Uganda has intensified its investment in Soroti District by expanding and upgrading the capacity of its network sites.
This development is aimed at supporting businesses, farmers, and the wider community to harness the opportunities brought by the digital age.

According to Mr. David Birungi, the Manager of Public Relations at Airtel Uganda, the company has increased the number of sites in the Soroti area to meet the growing demand for high-speed internet and reliable voice services.

Soroti operations area currently hosts over 90 network sites and approximately 6,000 Airtel agents, a testament to the growing digital footprint of the telecom company in the region.
“We are increasing the capacity of the network to be able to carry and support the business community, the agricultural farmers, and connect them to the opportunities of the network that Airtel offers,” said Birungi.

“We do this by increasing the number of sites in the area to draw attention to the fact that Airtel Uganda is here to give the best networks on voice, on data speeds, and on Airtel Money.”
The new network sites in Soroti include Asuret, Awoja, Atirir, Opuyo, Orwadai, Aukot, and Kamuda.
These locations have been carefully selected based on population growth, increased smartphone penetration, and the rising demand for data-driven services.
Birungi emphasized that since 2019, all Airtel sites in Uganda have been running on 100% 4G technology, allowing customers to enjoy faster internet speeds.
However, he acknowledged that network needs are dynamic, and Airtel is committed to responding to customer demands by injecting more sites and increasing capacity.
“The network is a living environment where people’s needs keep changing, and we respond to those needs. Even as we deliver 4G across the country, we know there are areas that need new sites, and we keep building and bringing more,” he added.
The upgrade is part of Airtel’s broader mission to enable farmers and small business owners to stay connected and operate efficiently, even in rural or remote settings.
The improved connectivity ensures that individuals can trade, access information, and communicate without relocating from their homes or businesses.
“Whoever is making plans for business, for agriculture, they should not worry about connectivity. They can stay on their farms, in their businesses, and utilize the network to trade with the world,” Birungi assured.
Local leaders have welcomed Airtel’s investments, noting the transformative impact of reliable telecommunications on development.
Soroti Resident District Commissioner Paul Eseru commended Airtel’s efforts and praised the peace and stability under President Museveni’s leadership, which has enabled the private sector, including telecom companies, to thrive.
“Before the coming of the telecom companies, life was hard,” said Eseru. “The NRM has laid a basic infrastructure to allow technology to flourish. Today, about 80% of Ugandans are using technology, and companies like Airtel are helping to expand that reach.”

Michael Olugu, the Soroti District LCV representative and Secretary for Works, described Airtel’s expansion as a significant milestone for the district.
He encouraged locals to embrace Airtel’s services, citing the company’s affordable call rates and commitment to service delivery.
“Airtel has done a good service to the country. I appeal to the people of Teso to join the Airtel movement,” Olugu said.
At the grassroots level, leaders are equally optimistic.
Sam Elamu, the LC1 Chairperson of Asuret Village, expressed appreciation for the upgrade of network services to 5G, particularly in areas like Asuret.
He urged Ugandans to switch to Airtel for a better digital experience.
“Airtel Uganda has proven to be better than other telecom companies. People should register with Airtel and enjoy better services,” Elamu said.
With its latest infrastructure boost in Soroti, Airtel Uganda continues to cement its position as a leading telecommunications provider committed to delivering affordable, reliable, and fast connectivity to all Ugandans.
