The family of Joan Faith Apio, a young pupil who was brutally murdered at Jozan Nursery and Primary School, has voiced deep concerns over growing insecurity at her final resting place.

The grieving family reported unsettling incidents of unidentified individuals frequenting the graveyard, raising fears of a potential plot to tamper with her grave.

During a court session today before Grade One Magistrate Apollo Kassujja Kibirige, the family detailed alarming occurrences in which unknown persons arrived at the graveyard on motorcycles and inquired about the grave’s exact location.

These individuals, appearing at odd hours of the night, have left the bereaved family on edge, worried that the grave may be desecrated.

Faced with the escalating threats, the family has resorted to hiring local guards to protect the grave during nighttime hours.

However, despite these efforts, the family insists that stronger security measures must be implemented to prevent any potential harm to Joan’s resting place.

They are calling on the government to step in and ensure the site remains undisturbed.

Speaking outside the courtroom, a grief-stricken Caroline Angel Akol, the mother of the deceased, pleaded with authorities to act swiftly.

“We are in so much pain. It is unbearable to think that even after losing our child in such a brutal way, we now have to worry about her grave being tampered with. The government must do something,” she lamented.

Akol also revealed the family’s struggles in attending court proceedings due to financial constraints, particularly the high costs of transportation.

She appealed for a faster legal process, expressing frustration over the delays in achieving justice for her daughter.

The case, which has attracted significant public interest, has left the family emotionally and financially drained.

During the hearing, Magistrate Kibirige directed the family to report the security concerns to the State Attorney for further investigation and possible action.

He then adjourned the case to April 17th, a decision that left the grieving family eager for a resolution.

Meanwhile, defense counsel Mudawa Geoffrey urged the court to expedite the trial.

He stressed that prolonged proceedings would only add to the distress of the affected family and called for a swift resolution.

Joan Faith Apio’s life was tragically cut short on February 5, when her lifeless body was discovered locked in a pit latrine at Jozan Nursery and Primary School.

Joan Faith Apio’s murder sent shockwaves through the local community, with many questioning the safety of children in schools and the general state of security in the area.

The tragic incident has ignited calls for stringent safety measures in schools to prevent such horrific crimes in the future.

Local leaders and human rights activists have also weighed in, demanding better protection for vulnerable families and stricter monitoring of school environments.
