As political activity intensifies in Katakwi, aspirants and incumbents seeking fresh mandates are returning to the grassroots to engage with the electorate.

Amidst this growing political momentum, candidates have been urged to uphold voters’ rights and promote peaceful campaigns.

In Ngariam County, Katakwi District, the 2026 parliamentary race is shaping up to be highly competitive.
The fate of incumbent State Minister for Education and Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, remains uncertain as his main challenger, Daniel Mulalu, continues to consolidate support.

Katakwi has previously witnessed instances of electoral violence, including the infamous Okoore incident, where pangas were reportedly purchased from Aarapoo market and used in violent clashes.
However, a section of Mulalu’s agents has accused certain rival camps of inciting violence while portraying themselves as the rightful voters in Katakwi.
Speaking to residents of St. Francis Alukucok in Alukucok Parish, Akoboi Sub-county, Ngariam County, over the weekend, Mulalu’s team reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring peaceful elections.
They also urged Christians to pray for a smooth electoral process in Katakwi and Ngariam County.
Emphasizing the need for nonviolent campaigns, Mulalu’s agents highlighted the importance of divine guidance in selecting the best candidate for Ngariam County.
Meanwhile, Daniel Mulalu, a Private Secretary in Charge of Political Mobilization and Affairs and a parliamentary aspirant for Ngariam County, has continued rallying his supporters to embrace peaceful campaigns.
While canvassing for votes, he strongly discouraged electoral violence, warning that it hampers development and breeds betrayal and bloodshed.
Mulalu further emphasized the importance of a free and fair political environment, urging his supporters to focus on issue-based campaigns while peacefully presenting their candidate’s manifesto.
He, along with other aspirants such as Augustine Otuko, is preparing to challenge the incumbent, Hon. Peter Ogwang, in the upcoming elections.
Minister Peter Ogwang has also in various occasions through his team called for smooth and peaceful polls.
Yesterday, while handing over 100 plastic chairs and a 100-seater tent to the village of Aterai in Akoboi Subcounty, Ngariam County, the team said the polls will be free and fair while calling on electorates to vote for leaders who connect with the voters.
