A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday night along the Tororo–Jinja highway at Mile 7, near the power station.

The collision involved a Kenyan-registered truck (KDL 901L/ZH 1635) and a taxi (UBL 894F) en route to Kampala from Tororo.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck rammed into the taxi and also damaged the tyre of another truck during the incident.
The taxi was carrying five passengers and suffered devastating impact.

One passenger was confirmed dead and the body was taken to the Tororo Municipality Mortuary.
Three others, identified as Eritrean nationals, were rescued and rushed to St. Anthony Hospital by the Red Cross emergency response team.
Dr. Adong Ritah, who was on duty at St. Anthony Hospital, reported that one of the victims, identified only as Nassir, regained consciousness after receiving first aid but remained in a critical condition.
Efforts are underway to contact his relatives in Kampala.
Two other patients, including an Eritrean man experiencing severe breathing difficulties, were referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for a CT scan and further management.
A female victim with a serious head injury exposing part of her skull also received emergency care and is expected to be transferred to Mbale for specialized treatment.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident as medical teams continue to work tirelessly to stabilize and support the survivors.
