Head teachers from across Tororo District convened at Rock View Primary School in Western Division, Tororo Municipality, for a one-day workshop focused on Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

The training, organized by the District Education Office, aimed to enhance school leadership and raise awareness about road safety.

The workshop emphasized strategic leadership and performance improvement.
Taabu Denis, the District Inspector of Schools, underscored the importance of strong leadership in driving academic performance.

He called on head teachers to actively engage in district initiatives and address challenges affecting school outcomes.
Taabu raised concerns about reports of teachers idling during instructional hours and urged school leaders to promote a culture of cooperation among staff.
He emphasized the need for schools to maintain clear work plans and objectives, singling out Lwala Primary School to prioritize registering candidates for the upcoming Primary Leaving Examinations.
He also stressed the need to safeguard school property by repairing classroom shutters and securing padlocks to prevent vandalism.
Albert Odoi, the District Education Officer, reminded head teachers of their professional responsibilities, warning against using acting appointments as excuses for poor performance.
He made it clear that underperforming head teachers would be replaced to ensure the progress of learners.
Odoi reaffirmed the department’s commitment to continuous capacity-building programs throughout the year.
Issat Nandutu, the District Traffic Officer, addressed the dangers of overloading, speeding, and reckless driving, particularly by boda boda operators.
She encouraged passengers to hold riders accountable and urged head teachers to incorporate road safety messages into weekly school parades.
Citing a recent tragic incident at Nyemnyem Primary School, where a student was struck by a vehicle, Nandutu stressed the urgent need for safety measures in and around schools.
She proposed several strategies to improve road safety, including implementing a road safety curriculum, painting zebra crossings, and conducting community sensitization.
Nandutu praised Rock View Primary School for its use of traffic guides and pledged continued support in training more guides if invited.
