Orungo County Member of Parliament aspirant, Emmy Olaboro, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the education sector in his home district, despite serving as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in Bulambuli District.
Olaboro’s passion for academic excellence has driven him to actively lobby for infrastructure development in Orungo High School and Morungatuny Seed Secondary School, two key institutions in the county.

His tireless efforts recently bore fruit when the government allocated approximately 1.1 billion shillings to boost infrastructure in the two schools.

The funding will support the construction of classrooms, pit latrines, and science laboratories, among other facilities.
Orungo High School received 776 million shillings for an administration block, an ICT lab, and science facilities, while 300 million shillings was allocated to Morungatuny Seed Secondary School for new classroom blocks.

The construction projects are being closely supervised by the Amuria District administration, ensuring proper monitoring and accountability in line with government procedures.
Speaking about his contributions, Olaboro emphasized that his dedication to education goes beyond political ambitions. He believes that investing in education is crucial in combating illiteracy and securing a brighter future for Orungo’s youth.
“One of the major barriers to quality education in our district has been inadequate infrastructure. Many students study in overcrowded classrooms or even under trees. We must change this reality to give our children a fair chance at academic success,” said Olaboro during an interview.
He further pointed out that the shortage of classrooms, teachers, accommodation for staff, and dormitories remains a pressing issue.
He called upon parents and community leaders to take an active role in their children’s education by ensuring regular school attendance and supporting school development initiatives.
Local stakeholders have expressed their appreciation for Olaboro’s commitment.
Gabriel Ecodu, the Secretary of the PTA at Morungatuny Seed Secondary School, noted that the initiative has significantly reduced the financial burden on parents, who previously had to contribute towards school development.
“This support has come at the right time. However, we still need more assistance to complete the girls’ dormitory and construct an ICT laboratory to improve digital learning and ensure the safety of our daughters in school,” Ecodu appealed.
Similarly, Emmanuel Ecodu, the Director of Studies at Morungatuny, revealed that the school faces a severe classroom shortage, with only four classrooms catering to 524 students.
As a result, some students are forced to learn under trees, especially in overcrowded lower secondary classes like Senior One.
Amuria District LCV Chairperson Moses Emabu commended Olaboro’s proactive approach and pledged to collaborate with him in advancing development projects in Orungo and beyond.
Addressing parents at an Annual General Meeting (AGM), Emabu urged the community to support leaders who focus on sustainable development rather than personal interests.
Emabu also expressed concern over Amuria District’s poor performance in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), where only 42 candidates attained Division One, with just four of them from Orungo County.
In response, he announced plans to hold education seminars with key stakeholders to identify and address performance gaps.
Parents like Alex Ebalu and Acilo Agnes praised Olaboro’s initiatives, expressing hope that improved infrastructure would help uplift the academic standards in the county.
“Investing in education is the best gift for our children. We appreciate Olaboro’s efforts, and we hope to see more young people succeed because of these interventions,” remarked Ebalu.
