Fred Nyanzi, the Head of Mobilization for the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been reportedly abducted by heavily armed men.
His brother, Robert Kyagulanyi, who also leads the NUP, confirmed the disturbing news on Monday evening.

According to Kyagulanyi, Fred Nyanzi was seized by unknown assailants at Kubbiri Roundabout, before being transported by drone to an undisclosed location.

“Our comrade and Head of Mobilisation for @NUP_Ug, comrade Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu, has been abducted by heavily armed men and taken away in a drone to an unknown destination! He has been abducted at gunpoint from Kubbiri Roundabout. The criminal regime is on rampage, BUT WE ARE NOT INTIMIDATED,” Kyagulanyi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Kyagulanyi’s statement has sparked outrage and concern across Uganda, with many fearing for the safety of Nyanzi.

The abduction occurred shortly after a meeting at the NUP headquarters in Kavule, according to the Leader of Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi.
“He was waylaid and pulled out of his car around Kubbiri. Our legal team is doing everything possible to trace where he could have been taken. The regime is clearly in panic, especially as we step up efforts to demand the release of all political prisoners,” Ssenyonyi said, expressing alarm at the escalating crackdown on political opposition.
As of the latest reports, the police have yet to comment on the abduction claims.
This incident follows similar abductions of two other NUP members, Rashid Kinobe and Sharif Kiyemba, who were reportedly taken by men in plain clothes just hours before Nyanzi’s disappearance.
Human rights organizations and political analysts are calling for an immediate investigation and the safe release of all those abducted.
