Katakwi Police are investigating a serious road accident that occurred on December 25, 2024, at around 4:00 p.m. at Olilim Trading Centre along the Katakwi-Moroto road.
The incident left a motorcyclist seriously injured, with the driver of the vehicle involved fleeing the scene.

The accident involved a Toyota Hiace (taxi), registration number UBL 425G, and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFJ 205S.

The victim, identified as Emuria Charles, a 30-year-old resident of Aisi village, Olilim Parish, Palam Subcounty, sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Katakwi General Hospital.
According to Damalie Nachuha, the East Kyoga Regional Police Commander (RPC), the Toyota Hiace was traveling from Moroto towards Soroti when the accident occurred.

The driver, whose identity remains unknown, was reportedly overtaking another vehicle at Olilim Trading Centre when the taxi collided with the oncoming motorcycle.
Nachuha attributed the accident to reckless driving, stating, “This unfortunate incident could have been avoided if the driver had exercised more caution. We urge all road users to be mindful of other people on the road.”
Following the crash, the Toyota Hiace was intercepted and is currently parked at Corner Orungo Astu checkpoint. Efforts are underway to tow it to Katakwi Central Police Station (CPS) and apprehend the driver.
The motorcycle involved has also been impounded and awaits inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
Police have called on road users to practice vigilance and adhere to traffic regulations, especially during the busy holiday season.
“We are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and holding the driver accountable for their actions,” Nachuha added.
