Over 25 suspects alleged to be part of the infamous “Owok Wok” group were last apprehended across various sub-counties in Soroti District during night patrols.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of the night, targeted areas notorious for criminal activity and drug abuse.

The suspects were caught in the act of smoking marijuana and consuming other harmful substances, according to the authorities.

Four motorcycles, believed to be used in the transportation of stolen livestock, were also recovered during the operation.
According to Soroti Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Paul Eseru, the operation was part of a broader effort to restore order and curb criminal activities in the district.

“Our security teams acted on intelligence reports and carried out a coordinated operation across multiple sub-counties. These suspects were found engaging in illegal activities that have been disturbing the peace in our communities,” RDC Eseru said.
The suspects are currently being detained at Soroti Central Police Station in Katine and Asuret Police Station, where investigations are ongoing.
He emphasized the need to strengthen community vigilance and collaboration with law enforcement to address the rising cases of crime and drug abuse in the district.
He has urged anyone with information regarding the activities of the “Owok Wok” group or other criminal elements to come forward and assist law enforcement.
Meanwhile, those arrested are expected to be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
He has promised continued vigilance and similar operations throughout the festive season.
