The long-awaited campaign season for the Soroti City West Division parliamentary race is set to officially kick off tomorrow, following confirmation from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership in Soroti City.
According to the Soroti City NRM Chairperson, John Enomu, who is also the party’s flag bearer for Soroti City West Division Mayor, all is set for the grand launch of David Calvin Echodu’s campaigns at Pamba Primary School.

Addressing the media in Soroti Hotel on Monday Afternoon, Enomu announced that Echodu, who also serves as an NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) member, will hold his first mass rally tomorrow after weeks of closed-door community engagements and strategy meetings.

“We want to thank the media and the people of Soroti, especially those from Soroti City West, for loving David Calvin Echodu and for loving His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Tomorrow is a day we have been waiting for,” Enomu said.
He revealed that although Echodu’s team has been conducting non-public mobilization meetings across the division, tomorrow’s event marks the first major rally that will bring together supporters from Pamba and surrounding areas.

“We have been having meetings which I know have been doing a very good job, but tomorrow we are going to have our first rally. It is going to be in Pamba and we expect everybody in Soroti City West who can afford to come. We are not ferrying people, but those who can join the people of Pamba, you are welcome to Pamba Primary School,” he noted.
Enomu said the campaign launch is expected to attract large crowds from both within and outside Soroti City West, adding that preparations are in high gear.
“We expect very many people coming from within and even outside. So we want to ask all of you, the people of Soroti City West, to be part of this,” he emphasized.
He praised Echodu’s groundwork over the years, saying the candidate has already demonstrated the capacity and heart to serve the people long before seeking formal political office.
According to Enomu, Echodu has gained admiration for his consistent engagement in community welfare initiatives, support programs, and development activities within Soroti City West.
“David Calvin Echodu has been doing a lot of work in Soroti City West and the people know very well what he has been doing. We want to encourage our people to support him because we believe together we can make him our Member of Parliament.
The other day I told the people not to compare David with a sitting MP because he has never been elected. But because of his good heart, he has been serving them like a Member of Parliament,” he explained.
Enomu extended gratitude to journalists for “consistent and positive” reporting, urging them to continue promoting unity and development in Teso.
“I want to thank all of you because you have been consistent and doing a very good job. I pray that we continue working together. Whatever you write can build or destroy, but you have chosen to support and uplift Teso,” he remarked.
The NRM chairperson dismissed ongoing claims circulating within the city suggesting that Echodu had stepped down from the race or suspended his campaign activities due to his involvement in national duties.
“There were people spreading rumors saying David has given up and will no longer campaign. Those were detractors trying to confuse people. I want to assure the public that tomorrow David Echodu will be in Pamba to officially start his campaign,” he said.
He clarified that although Echodu holds responsibilities as a CEC member, a position that may require occasional meetings with the President and other national leaders, these will not interfere with his campaign trail.
“After tomorrow, the following day we shall be in Orwadai and then continue to other wards. We have a marathon program. Even when he is called for national meetings, it does not mean campaigns will stop,” Enomu added.
In a separate but strongly worded message, Enomu cautioned NRM leaders in Soroti who are silently or openly supporting independent candidates in the forthcoming elections.
He said such individuals must relinquish their party positions.
“If you are an NRM leader and you are supporting independent candidates, then you must step down. You cannot hold a party office and at the same time undermine the official flag bearer,” he warned.
He emphasized that party unity is crucial as the campaigns gather momentum and encouraged all leaders to rally behind Echodu as the officially endorsed choice for Soroti City West.
Enomu concluded by calling upon residents to show up in large numbers, participate peacefully, and demonstrate their support for NRM’s parliamentary hopeful.
“We believe together we can make a difference for Soroti City. Tomorrow is the beginning of that journey,” he said.
The rally at Pamba Primary School is expected to begin at 1PM with speeches from NRM leaders, community representatives, and the candidate himself, paving the way for an intensive campaign trail across all wards in Soroti City West Division.
