The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party has extended support worth Twenty-Seven Million Shillings (UGX 27,000,000) to victims of a tragic road accident that occurred on Monday in Serere District.
The accident, which claimed one life and left eighteen others injured, involved a Fuso truck transporting party supporters from an NRM rally addressed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The financial assistance was delivered on Wednesday by a delegation of Serere leaders led by Serere District Woman MP and Minister of State for Fisheries, Hon. Hellen Adoa, together with Serere County MP Emmanuel Omoding, Serere RDC John Stephen Ekoom, Kasilo County NRM flag bearer Peter Paul Emaju, and Serere District LCV NRM candidate Eng. Martin Ongurucho.

The delegation visited the injured persons admitted at Serere Health Centre IV, Bethesda Hospital, Soroti Orthopedic Centre and those admitted in Mbale, where they offered both financial and moral support to the victims and their families.
The accident occurred on Monday, November 3, 2025, at around 3:00 pm at Ocaapa Cattle Market in Serere District.

The victims were traveling aboard a white Fuso truck registration number UBP 858V, returning from a presidential rally at the Serere District Headquarters.
According to preliminary reports, the truck lost control due to over speeding and overturned, injuring several passengers.
One of the victims, Mr. Emmanuel Opolot, a 24-year-old resident of Abuket Parish, Kyere Sub County, succumbed to internal injuries later that Evening.
Opolot, who lived with his grandfather, Mzee Constant Opolot Otim, a retired teacher, hailed from Ococwa Village in Kobuin Sub County, Ngora District. He will be laid to rest today at their ancestral home.
Addressing the media shortly after the hospital visit, RDC John Stephen Ekoom confirmed that most of the injured were out of danger and responding positively to treatment.
He commended the medical teams for their professionalism and timely response.
“The deceased sustained severe internal injuries and excessive bleeding, which may have contributed to his death. However, I am glad to report that the remaining patients are recovering steadily under close medical supervision,” said RDC Ekoom.
He also appealed to drivers, especially during the ongoing campaign season, to observe traffic rules and avoid reckless behavior such as overloading, over speeding, and drunk driving.
Hon. Hellen Adoa, while delivering the financial package on behalf of the NRM Party, said the support was intended to cover the victims’ medical bills and other related expenses.
“As the NRM family, we stand with our supporters during this difficult moment. The UGX 27 million we have brought today is a gesture of care from the party and its leadership. We thank our medical teams for the dedicated service and encourage the victims to remain strong,” Minister Adoa remarked.
She further commended the health workers at Serere Health Centre IV, Bethesda Hospital, Soroti Orthopedic Centre and those in Mbale for their professionalism and quick response that helped save lives.
Serere County MP Emmanuel Omoding consoled the families and urged them not to lose hope.
“We know it was a painful incident, but accidents are never planned. Let us stay united and continue supporting the NRM government. We shall walk this journey together,” he said.
MP Omoding committed to continue rallying behind the affected families and assured continued monitoring and support until all victims are fully recovered.
Kasilo County NRM flag bearer Peter Paul Emaju praised God for the victims’ recovery and prayed for continued healing.
“We are thankful to God that the situation did not worsen. I encourage all our people to stay firm and continue trusting the NRM leadership that cares for its supporters,” Emaju stated.
On his part, Eng. Martin Ongurucho, the NRM flag bearer for the Serere LCV seat, appealed to the victims to remain steadfast in their faith and loyalty to the party.
“This was an accident, not a deliberate act. We should not allow it to discourage us from the cause we believe in. Let us love our leaders and work together for the development of Serere,” Ongurucho emphasized.
Relatives and survivors expressed deep appreciation for the leaders’ gesture.
Ms. Amulen Joyce, a resident of Kamurojo Central in Kyere and mother to one of the injured pupils, said she was grateful for the support and visits.
“We thank our leaders for coming to see us and for helping with the hospital expenses. It gives us hope and shows that the party truly cares about its people,” she said.
Dr. Lawrence Abachu of Bethesda Hospital Soroti confirmed that after several X-ray scans and medical assessments, all the patients were stable and out of critical danger.
“We have managed most of the fractures and internal injuries. The recovery progress is encouraging,” he stated.
The Monday tragedy, though deeply painful, has once again reflected the NRM leadership’s swift response and commitment to the welfare of its supporters in times of crisis.
